It’s always been said that we should honor thy mother, but for Tyrese, it was very difficult to do that at times. However, on Wednesday, that’s exactly what he did- honored his mother, Priscilla Gibson, in a major way.

Their Past Struggles

Like we always say, here at ILOSM, celebrities are human beings with real life problems, just like the rest of us. That is evident in the history Tyrese had with his moms. Before the world got to know the brotha, his beautiful mother fell victim to substance abuse. She was an alcoholic for 27 years and according to Tyrese, she “KILLED” his childhood as a result. Even after he became an R&B and acting success, he still had some issues with his mom.

That is in the past now, because today they’ve moved forward and Priscilla has been sober for 11 YEARS! Although the scars from his childhood will always be there, the unconditional love he and Priscilla share supercedes it all.

Tyrese’s Surprise To Mother On 11 Years Of Sobriety

To show his appreciation for his mother, on Wednesday, October 11th, Tyrese celebrated her 11th anniversary of sobriety, by surprising her with a brand new home. He also took to social media to share the experience with his fans. In his Instagram post, he wrote:

tyrese: If there’s an award in heaven for forgiveness, having compassion towards those who have broke your heart and let you down over and over and over again…… I hope God doesn’t skip over me….. My mother is gonna pull up in 1 hour my heart is beating out of my chest she was an alcoholic for 27 years substance abuse KILLED my childhood I couldn’t wait to grow up and move out been living on my own since I was 17……. Today Oct 11th marks 11 years of my mothers sobriety she just got her 11th year chip…….. And this is how I decided to celebrate her and the victories God’s favor that he has extended over her life.

Not The First Time

This isn’t the first time the world got to witness Tyrese honor his mother with a new home. Years ago, on The Oprah Winfrey Show, he surprised his mother with a new home for Oprah’s ‘Mother’s Day special.’

Tyrese also reveled at that time, that his mother struggled to raise four kids and they had very little money growing up in a small home in Watts, California. Guess you can say, times have changed and the Gibson fam’ has come a LONG way. From a tumultuous relationship, to almost losing his mother to an illness in 2015, and now being able to gift her with a beautiful home in celebration of her 11 year sobriety- life for Tyrese and his moms has come full circle. That’s a beautiful thing.
