On May 17, Kandi took to Instagram with a jaw-dropping video of the group not singing, but SANGIN!’ According to Essence, the ladies met for a photo shoot in Atlanta, GA on Monday, May 15 but the moment wouldn’t have been right without the sound of beautiful music. Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, LaTocha Scott, Tamika Scott, and the Real Housewives of Atlanta star came together with a quick a-capella snippet of “Tonight” from their 1993 debut album, Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha. The clip makes it clear that they are back like they never left. Kandi’s caption also included a special message about the big surprise they have for fans.

A Message To Fans:

Almost immediately after the video was posted it began circulating online. Fans began sharing their reaction to seeing the ladies together after so many years. Black Twitter erupted with tons of responses and even people who didn’t plan to attend the Essence Festival are having second thoughts about missing the big event.

For quite some time, it seemed an Xscape reunion would never come to fruition but a twist of fate reportedly led the ladies back to their roots. Once they learned a third party was looking to make a biopic about the group without their input, they soon learned they all shared similar opinions and want to share their own inside story with fans.

“We caught wind that somebody was doing an unauthorized movie about us and we felt it was important for us to tell our own story, instead of somebody else telling it,” Kandi told Essence. “Tamika [Scott] and I hadn’t communicated in a long time but, when I was expressing to Tiny how I felt about our story not being told right, she relayed the message to everybody else and it turned out that we were all on the same page.”

The ladies also released a statement about the upcoming Essence Festival. “We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the return of XSCAPE than in New Orleans with our fans at the world famous, Essence Festival. Essence Fest is so much more than a music festival, it’s a celebration of culture, music and entertainment. We are excited and honored to be included in an incredible lineup of artists and performers, including the living legend, Diana Ross!”

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
