Charlie Murphy Laid To Rest: Comedic Friends & Family Pay Final Respect

Posted On : April 20, 2017

The beloved comedian, Charlie Murphy was laid to rest one week after passing away on April 12th (2017), after a long battle with leukemia. On Wednesday (4-19) evening Charlie’s family and close friends gathered in New York City to honor Charlie in a beautiful service titled ‘Darkness Is Spreading.’

Charlie’s service was representative of his life. He was working until his last days on TV in the series, Power and Black Jesus and also regularly doing standup alongside he’s comedian brothers. That brings us to our next point, his service was like a touching lineup of his stand up comedy shows and throwback Chappelle Show days. Some of Charlie’s closest comedian friends, including D.L. Hughley Dave Chappelle, Affion Crockett, Eddie Griffin, George Lopez, Cedric the Entertainer, Donnell Rawlings, and more attended the service to pay homage to their brother in solidarity. Afterwards, many of them took to social media to express their final goodbyes to Charlie…

Eddie and other family members did not share pics from the NYC service as of yet, but several of them have posted thank you’s and paid final respects to Charlie online.

Eddie’s daughter, Bria Murphy posted this message on Instagram:

“Devastated by the loss of my incredible uncle, and easily one of my favorite people on this planet. Thank you to everyone, for all of your condolences and prayers. My uncle will be missed, but never be forgotten. Rest in Paradise, King. I love you forever. #CharlieMurphy”

And Charlie’s and Eddie’s cousin, Ray Murphy Jr. took to twitter to thank several of the comedians for showing love to Charlie at the service on Wednesday, as you can see in his post at the top of this article.

Eddie’s ex-wife, Nicole Murphy, also paid homage to her brother-in-law, Charlie:

@nikimurphy: This man right here was an incredible person. Charlie had this amazing laugh that would make you start laughing. You knew when Charlie was in the house because there was a ball of energy that would be swirling around the room. Thank you Charlie for blessing me with all the funny moments that we shared. You will be truly missed. May you Rest In Peace. Love you Charlie 😘😞

It’s still hard to believe that the brotha who gave us SO many laughs throughout the years, has left this earth at 57 years young. He’ll always be remembered by his family and friends as a superb father to his three kids, and a wonderful brother, uncle, friend, brother, and cousin. He’ll always be remembered by us, fans, as a phenomenal comedian and incredible actor. Rest well Charlie Murphy…beautiful job done.

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
