Al Green on David LettermanDavid Letterman says “Oh My God!” to Al Green’s performance, but we ALREADY know Al Green is off the meter and has been for over 40 years. Why is it taking someone else til now to find that out, is beyond us. But hey, David Letterman nearly lost his mind recently after seeing Al Green perform on his show following the Kennedy Center Honors.

In fact, Letterman, who was there as Al Green was being honored, shouted “Oh my God!” four times following “Tired of Being Alone.” Letterman was there that night to pay tribute to actor Tom Hanks.

A night after being celebrated by President Barack Obama and other D.C. dignitaries at the Kennedy Center Honors, Al Green visited the Late Show With David Letterman. The Memphis soul legend and minister –accompanied by Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra – performed a pair of Al’s classic tracks, “Tired of Being Alone” and “Let’s Stay Together,” The OMGs start at 3:41 if you want to check it out…lol!

Al after suffering the grits attack in 1976, became a minister and operated a huge church in the Memphis area. On certain occasions, he has been known to bring out a few of the classics and even do some of them in a church way. We still remember seeing him in Atlanta during the 1988 Democratic National Convention with Oprah and Jessie Jackson and Al tore up the house with his 70s giant hits. Love me some Al Green! #iloveoldschoolmusic #payinghomage

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
