Days After Being Slapped w/Lawsuit, Lauryn Hill Drops Big Money On Tax Debt

Posted On : December 28, 2017

A few days ago, Lauryn Hill made headlines after she was sued by her former trombone player and now she’s at the center of news reports yet again. But this time, it’s for a fairly good reason. According to Bossip, the “If I Ruled The World” singer may finally be done with Uncle Sam and it’s all because of a mass payment she made to the IRS. It has been reported that Lauryn Hill recently paid $1 million toward her tax debt.

Full Responsibility:

Although Lauryn Hill initially refused to pay the taxes she owed, the singer has reportedly accepted full responsibility for the tax debt making the payment to the state of New Jersey. So, it looks like the Fugees lead singer is handlin’ financial business. The singer’s $1 million payment was reportedly a settlement for two years of tax debt. Hill is said to have owed the “New Jersey’s Division of Taxation for $438,221 from 2016 and another for $446,386.60 in 2012. In total, her entire tax debt was at least $894,607,” according to public records.

Years Of Legal Drama:

The latest news follows years of financial trouble with the IRS. For those who don’t know, Lauryn has been hit with quite a few tax liens for unpaid taxes for multiple years. After reports surfaced about the singer’s tax debt, she took to social media with an open letter about the situation. “This has been an ongoing process, and I have been working steadily towards a resolution,” Hill wrote on Twitter last year. “It has been an uphill battle, but we’re getting over the hump.” She continued, “I left the game, I wanted out, the way it was organized needed adjustment,” she wrote on Twitter. “When you eat a lot of other people’s debts like I did, and become financially responsible for as many people as I did, a break like the one I took was necessary. It took bold, courageous moves, and cost me certain economic comforts. But it’s getting better every day, thank God, and I’m living a much more liberated existence because of it.”

With the latest financial move, Lauryn Hill may be headed in the right direction. Best of luck to the famed singer.
