Denzel Washington Is At It Again, Speaks His Mind On Race, “Yeah, and so what?”

Posted On : December 16, 2016

Denzel Washington is at it again. Earlier this week, the famed Fences actor turned heads when he gave a reporter an ear-full after being asked his opinion of the media. Now, he’s taking aim at the Oscar’s.

60 Minutes and More:

This week, Denzel is set to appear on this week’s episode of 60 Minutes and he’s definitely not holding back. When asked about the lack of diversity with the Oscars, he wasted no time offering a scathing opinion of the annual awards ceremony, reports CBS.

Although it serves as a highly respected entity in the world of the film industry, Denzel sees it as clear as black and white – literally. He explained how he didn’t have to “think” about it at all. He’s always reminded of the lack of diversity because it’s part of his life.

“I don’t have to think about it, I’ve lived it,” Washington replies. “I’ve been the guy at the Oscars without my name being called. I’ve been the guy at the Oscars when my name is called. I’ve been the guy at the Oscars when everybody thought they were going to call my name and they didn’t. So I’ve lived it.”

To those who think the Academy’s process is unfair, he says, “Yeah, and so what? You going to give up? If you’re looking for an excuse, you’ll find one.” Is race the excuse? “You can find it wherever you like,” says Washington.  “Can’t live like that.  Just do the best you can do.”

#OscarsSoWhite:

Denzel’s powerful statement has reignited the social media fire that started as a hashtag after last year’s disappointing Oscars. Now, the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag is picking up steam yet again. As expected, fans are behind Denzel 100 percent. Although Denzel Washington’s highly anticipated film Fences with Viola Davis is already being lauded as one of the best films of 2016, fans are already convinced the #OscarsSoWhite bomb will be dropped on the film.

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
