He’s been fighting to win back his parental rights of his little girl, Shayla (11), after his ex-wife, Norma Gibson, filed a restraining order against him, claiming he’d beaten their daughter. Tyrese has adamantly denied it, cried about it, and pleaded online “Don’t take my baby!” over this.

Norma, however, is still pushing to get a permanent restraining order against Tyrese and as they continue to battle it out in court, here’s the latest chain of events that are now unfolding…

As we previously reported, a few days ago, Tyrese revealed the true reason behind his gut-wrenching social media meltdown. He blamed it on side effects of the anti-depression psychiatric med, Rexulti, his doctor prescribed, due to the extreme depression he’s been dealing with after being blocked from his daughter.

Now Acting As His Own Attorney

On Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, TheBlast reported that ‘Tyrese’s attorney, Terry Levich Ross, filed documents stating a substitution of attorney in the case. Tyrese will be “pro per” going forward.’ Meaning he is now acting as his own attorney.

Why Ex-Wife Demands Mental Evaluation

By Tuesday, Tyrese and Norma went back to court for their scheduled hearing and Tyrese reportedly did in fact act as his own attorney. During their court appearance, Norma demanded that he get a mental evaluation before he can see their daughter again:

Via TMZ: The lawyer for Tyrese Gibson’s ex-wife, Norma, just told the court it’s essential for the judge in their custody war to demand a mental evaluation of the actor in light of recent, bizarre actions. Attorney Aleen Khanjian was referring to the various videos Tyrese has posted, referencing Norma and Shayla. Khanjian also mentioned in court a court-appointed evaluator has referred to Tyrese as having a “mental illness.”

It also been reported that Norma told the court that Tyrese violated his restraining order by mentioning Shayla’s name on social media. A couple weeks ago, Tyrese revealed that the judge has now demanded that he no longer discuss his daughter online.

His Supporters vs. His Naysayers

Throughout this ordeal, fans and non-fans of Tyrese have weighed in heavily on social media. Many are supporting the brotha because they have witnessed for years, just how tightly bonded he and his daughter are. Ever since she was just a baby, Tyrese has shared countless happy father daughter moments with Shayla on social media.

Then there are many others who have expressed their non-sympathy for what Tyrese is going through. According to his naysayers, most of them feel that his current custody and financial struggles are karma for his perceived arrogance.

Arrogant Or Nah?

Is Tyrese arrogant? Depends on who you ask. But whatever the case -karma or no karma- sometimes man has to be stripped of everything, to be built back up into a better man. Tyrese has had great success as a model, singer, and actor. He’s climbed, clawed, and scratched his way outta the hood in Watts, California, from an alcoholic mother (who’s 11 years sober now), to the highest of heights in Hollywood. Now he’s feeling a pain that no amount of fame and fortune can place a bandaid on- the pain of a father being stripped away from his everything, his daughter. As we witness Tyrese hit one of his lowest points, will he ultimately emerge as a better man? We shall see.
