The business and seemingly the personal relationship between Gladys Knight, her son, Shanga Hankerson, and their restaurant chain, Gladys Knight’s Chicken & Waffles, is unfortunately falling further down a cliff as the days go by. Amid the current disaster Shanga has apparently gotten the restaurants into- due to what the IRS says is a $1 million dollar debt of unpaid taxes and penalties, which the restaurants’ employees claim Shanga blew on hookers, weed, and vacations- Shanga has just filed court papers against his mother, according to DailyMail.

If you recall, we previously reported that Gladys didn’t want any parts of her brand, name, nor, likeness associated with Gladys Knight’s Chicken & Waffles restaurant (which she says she simply has been lending her name to all these years to help her Shanga) anymore, after Shanga’s alleged negligence has been bringing down the chicken and waffles joint like a sinking ship. So Gladys filed court docs recently to ask a judge to force Shanga to remove her name from the business and to remove all of her pictures and music memorabilia from the restaurant’s walls and return them to her immediately.

I guess Gladys was in the mindset of her song Midnight Train to Georgia” and was ready to leave Shanga’s restaurant business behind ‘to go back to find a better place in time’…but I digress…see why Shanga just denied his mom’s wishes below…

HERE’S WHY SHANGA FILED COURT DOCS AGAINST HIS MOM, GLADYS

Well as of Thursday (8-22-16)  Shanga filed court docs that in a few words basically say ‘Hell no!’ to his mom’s wants. He says he’s keeping her name associated with the restaurants because she is not ‘mentally’ capable of making such decisions. We have no clue as to what Shanga means by that but here is the report of everything else he said:

Via DailyMail: Gladys Knight’s son is refusing to remove her name from his Atlanta restaurant chain – because he claims in new court papers – she lacks the ‘mental capacity’ to rescind the licensing deal. Soul singer Knight had ordered her son, Shanga Hankerson, to remove her name from his Gladys Knight’s Chicken and Waffles outlets after he was accused of stealing from the business.

But the battle between The Midnight Train To Georgia singer and her son has turned even nastier, as Hankerson has now moved to block his mother removing her name from the business. The court documents, filed Thursday and seen exclusively by DailyMail.com, say ‘Plaintiff’s claims are barred, in whole or in part, [sic] lack of mental capacity to rescind the license agreement granted to Defendants.’

We don’t really know how this whole thing is gonna play out, but we truly hope this does not take too much of a toll on what once seemed to be a beautiful mother/son relationship between Gladys and Shanga. We’ll keep y’all posted on this though and in the meantime, hopefully Shanga is handling his business to get his restaurant back in order, because Gladys Knight’s Chicken & Waffles had some of the BEST soul food in Atlanta! Get it together Shanga, so folks could keep gettin’ their grub on!
