Major Tax Problems, Uncle Sam Wants Serious Money From Mo’Nique & Husband

Posted On : December 7, 2017

Celebrities are often paid top dollar for their work; the type of cash that some fans could only dream of. But with that type of cash comes with major responsibility. Unfortunately, there are times when people get a little caught up and Uncle Sam comes knockin’ to collect. Apparently, its one of those times for Mo’Nique. According to The Blast, the IRS recently slapped the comedian/actress with another tax lien. Now, they’re coming after her because she owed back taxes for multiple years.

Three To Be Exact:

On October 23, Mo’Nique and her husband, Sidney Hicks were hit with a federal tax lien filed in Georgia. Uncle Sam claims the former Queens of Comedy star owes back taxes for 2013, 2014, and 2015. The multiple leins reportedly exceed more than a half a million dollas – $560,625.22. The publication has reported that the IRS has “accused her of not paying taxes for the years 2013 ($201,695.99) and 2014 ($188,208.99) for a total of $389,904.98.”

Black-Balled In The Industry?:

The latest news about Mo’Nique comes months after her highly publicized rant slamming Tyler Perry, Lee Daniels, and Oprah Winfrey. At the time, the comedian/actress and her husband claimed she’d been “black-balled” in the film industry. According to the LA Times, Mo’Nique recalled a conversation she had with Lee Daniels and she claimed he was the one who told her she was black-balled.

“I got a phone call from Lee Daniels maybe six or seven months ago,” the comic-actress told the Hollywood Reporter. “And he said to me, ‘Mo’Nique, you’ve been blackballed.’ “And I said, ‘I’ve been blackballed? Why have I been blackballed?'” she continued. “And he said, ‘Because you didn’t play the game.’ And I said, ‘Well, what game is that?’ And he gave me no response.”

Could Mo’Nique have seen money woes coming her way? There’s a possibility, but right now she has yet to address the reports about the tax leins. Although Mo’Nique had colorful comments for Tyler Perry, Lee Daniels, and Oprah Winfrey, it looks like she and her husband have bigger problems now. As of today, the tax lein has not been resolved and is still listed as active.
