Posted On : September 28, 2016

In case you haven’t heard by now, Mary J. Blige has a new talk show coming out on September 30th on Apple Music TV called “The 411” and we are very happy to see Mary branching out and doing big things.

Okay, with that said, I have to dig into this odd Hillary Clinton interview controversy that’s been heating up the internet since Tuesday, which is also when Mary J. quickly clapped back, then deleted a message to people who were clowning her interview with comments like the ones below and they still kept going even after Mary’s tweet…

This all started on Tuesday when Apple released the above clip of Mary interviewing Clinton and after seeing so much online backlash she was getting, I decided to check it out myself. Now…here’s the thing, my Momma always told me that no matter what, I should always have integrity and practice honesty even if it hurts my feelings, or someone else’s. ILOSM fam’ do you see where I’m going with this? Okay good, we’re on the same page then…so here it is:

As much as I sincerely love my girl, Mary J., and everything she represents, I hate to admit it, but THIS here video clip of her singing to Hillary Clinton was just odd. I don’t think it was odd that she was singing to Clinton, nor that she was singing an anti-police brutality song, it was odd because it seemed like Mary made up the song right there on the spot, to music that didn’t really fit the emotion she was trying to give. Clinton seemed to feel a tad bit awkward too, especially when Mary J. grabbed her hand and started belting out the song like they were standing in church during the praise n’ worship segment of Sunday service. All in all, the mood, setting, and timing just didn’t go together.

On the flip side, it’s clear to see that Mary J.’s heart was definitely in the right place, so I give her applause for that. And because I love me some Mary, I’ll even give her the benefit of a doubt and say that maybe the oddness was due to the clip that was chosen, or maybe it won’t be so odd when we see the entire interview once it’s released…okay now I’m grabbing, but at least I’m trying…

I still got nothin’ but love for you though Mary! Keep doing your thing.

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
