Strap on your seat belts old schoolers, because Bobby Brown has promised that his upcoming memoir will be a journey through his “crazy, exciting, fascinating world.” We’ve gotten to know Bobby Brown over the past 25 years and we’ve been on a roller coaster beginning with his departure from New Edition, seemingly tremoutouls relationship with Whitney Houston, obvious drug and alcohol use, his relationship with ex-groupie Karrine “Superhead” Steffans, and everything else in-between. Yet Bobby Brown said there’s more!

Brown is writing the book to “set the record straight” in what is being called a “raw and unvarnished” account of his life story and the turmoil surrounding his rise and fall in the music industry. The story will also cover his struggles with drugs and alcohol, and frequent stints in rehab. Also, it will tell the ups and downs between the New Edition group members, from the time he co-founded the group to the moment he left to pursue his successful solo career.

According to AP, here’s what Bobby Brown had to say about how writing this book helped him emotionally.

“But I was surprised by how therapeutic it was to work on this project, to look at the entire arc of my life and to realize that although there has been considerable pain, I have also been incredibly blessed,” Brown said. “I hope my fans and other readers of this book will be entertained by this trip into the crazy, exciting, fascinating world of Bobby Brown. And I hope they will feel that I have been as honest and open with them in these pages as I have tried to be my entire life.”

Financial terms for “My Prerogative” were not disclosed. Dey Street Books called the memoir “raw and unvarnished” and promised that Brown will “tell the full story of his life and set the record straight, particularly about his relationship with Whitney Houston.”

“‘My Prerogative’ is the story of a man who has been on the top of the mountain and in the depths of the valley and who is now finally ready to talk about his career and family life, from the passion and the excess to his creative inspirations and massive musical success,” according to the publisher’s statement.

The memoir is scheduled to release in 2016, and will be co-written by Nick Chiles, who has worked on books by the Rev. Al Sharpton and former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, among others. Do you think Bobby Brown is doing too much with writing this book?

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
