Remember when there as all this talk about new Prince music dropping on the one year anniversary of his passing? Many Prince fans had already pre-ordered their copies of the new album online, only to find out hours before the scheduled release, that it was a no-go.

That whole fiasco was the result of the legal conflict between Prince’s longtime engineer, George Boxhill, and Prince’s estate overseers who were like ‘Hell naw, there will be no Prince release on our watch.’ So they filed an injunction to put a halt on Boxhill’s album release.

Boxhill had claimed that Prince granted him permission to release several songs he’d either produced for him or co-wrote with the Purple One. But the estate claimed Boxhill had absolutely no right to do so.

Prince’s sound engineer, George Boxhill

Well fast forward to today, and according to TMX, Boxhill is now claiming victory over the estate. Even though he’s still trying to get the injunction overturned, Boxhill’s claiming that the estate actually has now admitted in open court that he has the right to release some of Prince’s music and make some bread off of them.

In addition to that, Boxhill’s people said he went for the gusto and had his music label, RMA, offer the estate $10 million for the massive Prince music vault, but they gave him yet again a resounding ‘Hell naw’ (not in so many words of course).

If the estate turned down Jay Z’s much larger offer and the deal for Universal Music Group’s $31 million offer fell through with Prince’s estate, what made Boxhill think he could get it for $10 mil? Guess it was just wishful thinking I suppose. At any rate, will y’all be ready to buy that new Prince album when/if Prince’s sound engineer releases it?

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
