Why Prince’s 7 Seconds Made The 2015 Grammys Worth Watching

out of performing her “Take my Hand, Precious Lord” performance, that she performed as Mahalia Jackson in “Selma.” They chose Beyonce’ to perform it instead. Now that’s just wrong. Common and John Legend were allowed to perform their “Selma” song, so why did they have to do the singer swap with Ledisi and Beyonce’? I understand they want ratings, but I’m pretty sure they could have found another way to slide Beyonce’ in the show because well, she’s Beyonce’ and has plenty of hits that the fans would have also loved to see her sing. Ledisi said that she was “a little disappointed” about getting bumped, but she was going to stay positive and uplift and support all women, including Beyonce’ because it’s not her fault. That was big of her, and she’s right, it’s not necessarily Beyonce’s fault, because what we’re hearing now is that John Legend said that Beyonce’ came to him at the last minute and asked to sing the song and introduce he and Common. Now I respect John Legend as an artist, but he didn’t have to agree to that, nor did the Grammy producers have to okay it after already having planned for Ledisi to perform. Bottom line is it’s just messed up that Ledisi didn’t touch that Grammy stage, in my humble opinion.

Ledisi also said this about not being asked to perform at the Grammys:

So for these reasons, it’s kind of hard for me to get into this particular trophy show.

Beyonce’ got snubbed out of an award too. Why did she lose to Beck?!! Is he really a better artist than her? Some might say yeah, but in my opinion the answer is no. Now I know most of us are probably tired of hearing Beyonce’ on the radio every hour on the hour, but the woman is still a very talented singer who deserved that award.

Overall, the Grammys was just more of the same thing it is every year- a snooze fest with a couple good moments. Raise your hand if you felt like you were sitting through something that for whatever reason, felt like you didn’t want to turn the channel because you might miss something, but at the same time you were thinking about everything you had to do in the morning. THANK YOU Prince for shaking up the show and putting your 7 seconds to good use.

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
