Via Ebony: “My sister was my life, she was probably one of the sweetest people you’d ever want to meet,” Shirley Jones told EBONY. “When we lost Val in 2001 that was a real big blow to the family….The bond that we had growing up was unique; it was so special. […] The heartbreak is phenomenal. I can’t even imagine going on without her but life will go on. We’re strong and we’re going to persevere in her name. She was truly a wonderful person. […] She was probably one of the most talented women, her voice was like silk. She loved people and she loved music, especially.”

It was also reported that Shirley said her sis,’ Brenda, was recently thinking about returning to the music industry, but mostly dedicated her time to her two daughters and her granddaughter whom she “adored.” She often traveled with one of her daughters to help with her granddaughter as her daughter is a traveling nurse. Shirley also stated that Brenda absolutely loved music to this day.

Although The Jones Girls have now lost two of their sisters- Brenda and Valorie (Valorie’s cause of death is unknown)- the phenomenal mark they left on music is priceless and we are truly grateful for their contributions to soul music. Our sincerest condolences go out to their families. May Brenda and Valorie Jones forever rest peacefully after a beautiful job done here on earth.
