Shawn was the lead singer of Pure Soul. Nowadays she’s been performing solo and her voice is still just as powerful as it was when she was belting out her adlibs “Now I know, yes I know I will never let you go!” toward the end of “We Must Be In Love.” See two of her most recent performances below…

pure soul7Overall, it’s a beautiful thing to see these ladies following their passions in life and now that we’ve covered where they’ve been, we have some questions: Why is it that we don’t have groups like them anymore? As a matter of fact, why is it that we don’t have any groups anymore? Lawd knows the music game desperately could use a group like Pure Soul right about now.

On second thought, even if there were R&B groups today, they probably wouldn’t last just like so many groups from back in the day weren’t able to stand the test of time. Record sales are at an all time low as a result of the internet, so splitting one royalty check 4 different ways would equate to 4 incredibly broke group members, unless they figure out how to capitalize off of the new wave of internet exposure artists can get these days. Another thing is that 4 different personalities will more than likely lead to 4 different personality clashes, which has been the demise of many groups like The Supremes, Dru Hill (although their back together), SWV (although they too are back together, thank goodness), The Temptations and so many more.

Since we probably won’t be seeing a Pure Soul reunion anytime soon, we’ll just sit back and reminisce to these classics…

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
