I know the ILOSM family is just as angry as the rest of the world when it comes to our man Denzel losing the Oscar for Best Actor last night!

Washington’s latest Oscar snub has sparked a media firestorm. It’s no secret Denzel is arguably one of the most respected actors in the film industry. We know we won’t win EVERY award, and he hasn’t, but his talent knows no bounds and he’s long surpassed the color barriers when it comes to the measure of his acting abilities. Denzel isn’t just one of the best “African-American” actors; he’s simply “one of the best”, (certainly he was this year). But, despite his immeasurable talent, he was once again snubbed at the Academy Awards.

Sordid Past:

Time and time again, Denzel Washington has been snubbed by the Oscars. From his groundbreaking performance in Malcolm X to his impressive roles in films like Antwone Fisher, The Hurricane, Crimson Tide, Cry Freedom, Remember the Titans, Philadelphia, and Flight to name a few, the Oscars have sent a disturbing statement to Denzel Washington: his talent will forever be overlooked. But, after so many years of upsetting losses, most fans hoped things would be different when it came to Denzel’s role in the film, Fences.

Daunting Present:

Unfortunately, the Oscars snubbed the famed actor yet again. When the winner for “Best Actor” was announced, everyone did a double take. Denzel Washington lost the award for Best Actor for his role in Fences to Casey Affleck for his role in Manchester by the Sea.

Initially, fans believed there had to be some kind of mistake. But, to everyone’s shock and dismay, Casey Affleck really won. Even Denzel couldn’t hide his frustration.

Almost immediately after the winner was announced, Denzel’s fans wasted no time dragging the Oscars for snubbing the actor’s stellar performance. Not only did Denzel star in the film, he also directed it and fans felt the performance was definitely Oscar-worthy, but to no avail.

Social Media Backlash:

Hours after the award show ended, Denzel’s fans were still dragging the Oscars. Of course, Denzel’s snub made one thing clear: the Oscars will always be white. Check out some of the tweets:

Hopefully, things change for the better in the future, but it definitely doesn’t look like that’ll ever be the case.
