Late actor/comedian, John Witherspoon, kinda surprised us when he revealed how much, or rather, how little he actually made from his role on the “Friday” films. Let’s just say, he started from the bottom.
(Video) Witherspoon Made HOW MUCH For “Friday” Movie?!!
In a 2018 interview with Vlad TV, Witherspoon said that for the first “Friday” movie – a film that grossed $30 million at the box office, but only cost $3 million to produce – he earned a big fat check for $5,000! Yep, you read that correctly – Witherspoon said he earned a whopping $5 G’s – and according to Witherspoon, so did the rest of the “Friday” cast:
“We got paid five thousand dollars a piece to do that movie. … Everybody else on that show, they gon’ say they made more money, but ain’t nobody made no money on that,” said Witherspoon.
John Witherspoon’s anorexic-like “Friday” check was surprising, but we’ve gotta keep in mind that this was a new film and folks probably didn’t know how big it would end up becoming. So, maybe Ice Cube and New Line Cinema had to penny pinch on that particular “Friday” budget.
But Then This Happened…
Then the big payday came for Witherspoon…after the second “Friday” rolled around, John said he earned $100,000. Now that was more like it. And of course the checks only got better once the third “Friday” installment was being filmed…and Witherspoon ultimately was able to sing, “Well we’re movin’ on up, to the east si-i-ide…” when he got paid close to $1 million for that one.
Is A ‘Friday Part 4’ Still In The Works?
As far as a ‘Friday #4,’ there’s been much speculation, for several years, that one would soon be in the works. But for the longest time, it didn’t seem as if that would ever happen. Many fans also assumed Chris Tucker would return to the “Friday” franchise for his “Smokey” role, but unfortunately we will never see a new scene from the “Smokey” character again, according to the late John Witherspoon.
Witherspoon cleared those Tucker rumors up a few years ago, stating that after Warner Brothers bought out New Line Cinema, they do not want to do a “Friday pt. 4,” UNLESS Chris Tucker signs the deal. However, according to Witherspoon, Chris Tucker was like ‘Hell naw, I’m not doing it.’
Apparently by 2018,Ice Cube, Witherspoon, and Mike Epps were cookin’ up something at that time, because a photo and video surfaced online of what appeared to show them filming on the set of a new “Friday.” However, it’s unclear if they were able to finish filming the alleged ‘Friday pt. 4’ film prior to John Witherspoon’s untimely passing from a heart attack on October 19, 2019. Only time will tell.

Who could ever forget the many classic lines and characters from the “Friday” movie franchise? There were countless memorable characters and two of them that will forever be a stand-out, are ‘crackhead Felicia’ and the ‘sexy neighbor, Ms. Parker.’ Actresses Kathleen Bradley and Angela Means played the hell outta their supporting roles in that movie, didn’t they?
“Ms. Parker” made “Smokey” (Chris Tucker) and “Craig” (Ice Cube) say “Heeeeey Ms. Parker. How you doin’ Ms. Parker? I wanna (bleep) Ms. Parker.” And she made Bernie Mac’s preacher character almost lose his religion, when she walked out of her house to water the lawn in those barely there Daisy Duke shorts and midriff shirt.
Then there was the hilarious “Felicia,” who was always asking folks to loan her stuff and even tried to convince “Smokey” to let her “borrow” his car. That’s when she forever became the face of the classic one-liner we all know today as, “Bye Felicia.”
This year (2021) marks the 26th anniversary of “Friday’s” release -yes, it’s been THAT long- and in recent years, “Felicia” and “Ms. Parker” have reunited, damn near looking the same as they did in 1995! The only difference is that in real life, Kathleen and Angela are far from their comical “Friday roles”…and we’re loving it.

As we previously reported, Angela is now the proud owner of her Los Angeles, Ca. vegan cafe. She revealed that the photo was from the time Kathleen passed through her cafe and that her customers also had “Friday” flashbacks when they all yelled out, “Hey Ms. Parker”…

What Kathleen Bradley Does Now & How She Feels About A “Friday” Sequel
So what has Kathleen been up to lately you ask? Quite a few things. She has a tell-all book out now and a few years ago, she was not shy about voicing her dislike regarding being left out of the talks of a “Friday” sequel. After rumors surfaced, in 2013, that there may be another “Friday” movie in the works, Kathleen made it no secret that she was not pleased to not have been asked to be a part of it.
Not sure if things have changed regarding a “Mrs. Parker” feature for the rumored upcoming sequel now though.
Speaking of the “Friday” film…as you all know, comedian A.J. Johnson sadly passed away in early September 2021. Though official details of his passing have yet to be released, many of his cast-mates have expressed their deep sadness over his sudden passing, including Angela Means and Kathleen Bradley.
Kathleen shared a photo of A.J. on Instagram and captioned it with:
“Woke up to sad news, today another one of our Friday cast member has taken his flight. AJ Johnson. Rest in heavenly peace my brother.”
Angela shared the following photo of A.J. online and wrote:
“So many memories with A.J. Johnson. At one point in life we were best friends We made one another laugh from the gut.
May God have mercy on his soul.”

My neck…my back…my neck and my back,” as he purposely fell to the floor in that grocery store scene, was genius!

A.J. Johnson kept it real when asked if the Friday actors are getting any residual royalties from the film today:
“Yeah we still get residuals…like 60 cents. …You gotta pay more to cash the check, than what you got get. The check is 60 cents and you gotta pay three dollars to cash it.”
Cube’s Alleged Regret
AJ then explained how the huge response he’d received at the premier of Friday, caught Ice Cube off guard, prompting Cube to somewhat regret not giving him a larger role…although AJ initially tried to convince Cube to do so, allegedly:
“At the premiere, it was crazy…everybody [was laughing]. And when [Ice Cube] came back there and said ‘Damn man, we shoulda had you through the whole movie,’ I wanted to sock him!”
Then came time for Next Friday and that’s where AJ says Cube dogged him. When Vlad asked AJ why he wasn’t ‘asked to be in Next Friday,’ AJ revealed this:
“I was asked. … Cube called me and we had a meeting…and we was talking about the money. And we came to a number (a payment agreement) that I was getting and we shook hands, and we was gonna do it (film the movie, Next Friday). … About 2, 3 weeks later…I was in the movie, I was gon’ shoot it…and I get a phone call [saying], ‘Man, you know they’re shooting Next Friday.’
Aj’s surprised response to the caller was: “I’m like, ‘Uh…how they shooting?…I’m IN it…how they shooting?!!’
He says the caller then went on to explain that Cube and the rest of the cast were “on 105th street shooting” Next Friday as they spoke. Thinking there must have been some type of miscommunication about the filming, AJ revealed he got a rude awakening when he showed up to the Next Friday set: “So I get in my car and I go down there. I tried to go on the set to talk with Cube, but he done already had me barred off the set, where I can’t even get on…to talk to him.”
Then came the next shocker for AJ: “Come to find out, he done hired the dude from Onyx [rap group] play my part.”
Wow! We haven’t heard Ice Cube’s side of this story, so we’re not sure why things went down like that at the time. However, hopefully they’ve since been able to forgive and move past this.
Tommy “Tiny” Lister
As we continue to mourn the passing of one of actor, Tommy “Tiny” Lister a.k.a. “Deebo” from the Friday film, details have emerged about the health state he was in prior to his passing. Below are updates from those within his inner circle.
COVID Symptoms Prior To Passing:
According to Lister’s manager, Cindy Cowan, the actor had been experiencing some COVID-like symptoms days before he’d passed away.
In a statement to CNN, Cowan revealed that Lister began feeling very ill approximately one week before his death. She says he wasn’t breathing well and was feeling extremely week.
Via TMZ– [Cindy Cowan] says he was supposed to work on a movie set last weekend but had to cancel due to his breathing difficulties, and he also canceled a Zoom appearance for a TV festival Wednesday. That night is when Cowan says friends and family tried to call and check on him, but their calls went on answered.
Friends and Business Associates Called Cops:
A release from The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department says friends and business associates of Lister became worried Thursday when they hadn’t heard from him since Wednesday night. Deputies performed a welfare check where they made their way into his apartment and found him dead. -via TMZ
Although Lister’s loved ones are reporting the COVID-like symptoms, it has not yet been confirmed, by the coroner, that Lister did in fact have COVID. Lister’s cause of death has not yet been determined, however, an autopsy is scheduled to conclude what exactly claimed his life.

In fact, one of his first memorable roles was in Friday After Next, when he played the hilarious crackhead, ‘Broadway Bill,’ who robbed ‘Money Mike’s’ (Katt Williams) clothing store and ultimately got busted by ‘Craig’ (Ice Cube) and ‘Day-Day’ (Mike Epps).
‘Money Mike’ then proceeded to try to slice him up with an old school box cutter, as ‘Broadway Bill’ taunted him and to this day, that scene is still one of the funniest in the movie. Watch that clip below and get your laugh on.

What Chris Williams Is Doing Now
Although his Friday After Next role was small, these days Chris has moved on up like The Jeffersons in terms of the roles he gets now. He’s a long way from the cameo appearance type of roles and has actually found his place on television just like his sister, Vanessa, did a few years ago. Chris now has recurring roles on the TV shows, The Great Outdoors and Silicon Valley.

Actor, Clifton Powell, widely known to many of us Old Schoolers as “Pinky” from the movie, “Friday” was filmed on camera in the car with his son…actually it was his son, Clifton Jr., who filmed his Pops and it had all of us crackin’ up over here. In case you haven’t noticed, Clifton Jr. is tall as all get out! LOL. He’s 6’5″ and is putting his height to good use. He’s a basketball player and is about to enter college after making some major noise on the high school level. Here are two short clips he posted on his Instagram page…this young cat’s got skills…
There are two things we really dig about Clifton Powell Sr.:
(1) He is one of the most versatile highly skilled and versatile actors in the game (and I personally think he’s a little underrated). Any actor who can go from playing “Pinky” to a more serious role as Ray Charles’ right hand man in the movie “Ray,” deserves his props!
(2) The brotha ALWAYS somehow finds a way to keep a gig! His resume stretches from stage plays, to TV series,’ to movies, and from villains to comedic roles. He is now on the new Bounce TV series that everyone’s been raving about, “Saints and Sinners,” so be sure to check him out on there…
He will also be in the upcoming Tupac biopic. Here is a pic of him with his co-stars on set…
He’s currently starring in the stage play, “Married But Single,” also starring Lisa Raye, Carl Payne, Derrin Henson, and others…
