Tank Pays Touching Tribute To Former Bosses Aaliyah & Ginuwine For What They Did For Him

Posted On : October 2, 2017

R&B crooner, Tank, showed some serious love and gratitude to two people who jumpstarted his career- his former TGT group member, Ginuwine, and the beloved Aaliyah.

Most of us didn’t know who Tank was until 2001, when he dropped his hit single, “Baby I Deserve.” What many also didn’t know, is that he was in the music game well before that, thanks to Aaliyah and Ginuwine. Before Tank  became a solo artist, Ginuwine first put him on by adding him as a background singer for his tour. This was when Ginuwine was at the height of his career and was damn near like the ‘second coming’ in the world of R&B.

Ginuwine and Aaliyah

Aaliyah also helped Tank’s career. While on tour with Ginuwine, Tank said that Ginuwine let Aaliyah (who was also on that tour)  hear Tank and the other background singers. Aaliyah was instantly like ‘Oh y’all gotta be my background singers for the tour too.’  She also featured Tank on her 1996 hit, “Come Over.” Those opportunities gave Tank’s music career a much needed boost at that time. That’s why he expressed his eternal grateful to them on social media…

We’re a lil’ tardy for the party with this one, but it’s better late than never. On August 25, 2017 -the 16th anniversary of Aaliyah’s untimely passing- Tank posted a touching tribute to Aaliyah and also paid homage to Ginuwine for all they’ve done for him:

@therealtank: Without these two I don’t know where I’d be or even who I’d be.. I wished we could all see forever but God had other plans. She had to leave but she didn’t leave me by myself. She left me with an OG that’s been the Same Ol G from day 1! I love you two with all my heart and that love will live on forever!.. #aaliyah #ginuwine #oneinamillion #thebachelor

In addition to paying homage to Ginuwine and our beloved Aaliyah, Tank is staying on top of the grind they helped to spark. He’s currently on tour promoting his new album, “Savage,” and included a few updates about it below…

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
