They Still Got It: Aretha Performs, Cissy Houston Sings Backup On Late Show With David Letterman

Posted On : October 2, 2014

The “Queen of Soul” became a trending topic on Facebook and Twitter after she performed on the “Late Show With David Letterman” a few days ago. She was promoting her upcoming album and her good friend, Cissy Houston (Whitney’s Mother), was singing backup for her. Now we all love us some Cissy, so we’ll give her a pass for not really knowing all of the lyrics to the songs they were singing (we were just happy to see her up there having a good time after all that she’s been through) and we’ll just move on to Aretha’s performance. Aretha’s voice is still just as powerful and potent as it ever was and she proved to everyone that at 72 years young, she can still take control of the stage, hold her own, and show these youngins how it’s really done!

Check out Aretha and Cissy performing “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep.”

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
