This Singer In Talks To Play Aretha In New Biopic, Should She Though?

aretha franklin singing2So there have been many off-again, on-again talks from Aretha Franklin’s camp about her biopic for many years now. Aretha is not an easy entertainer to portray and her life has been filled with many obstacles, so it’s understandable that the producers and Aretha couldn’t easily decide on who should play the ‘Queen.’

Fast forward to today, and there just might be a new ‘Queen’ on deck. Her name is Jennifer Hudson, you’ve probably heard of her (LOL). Nothing is etched in stone yet, but according to TheWrap, Jennifer’s people have confirmed that they’ve been in talks with the producers about it. Here’s what was reported:

Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson is in discussions to play Aretha Franklin in a biopic that “Straight Outta Compton” producer Scott Bernstein developing under his SMB Films banner, an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.

Hudson has not been officially cast as there is no deal in place, but a representative for the “Dreamgirls” star has acknowledged that conversations have taken place.

The Untitled Aretha Franklin Project, which has been in the works for several years, will chronicle the “Respect” singer’s rise to fame in the ’60s and ’70s and delve into her relationship with her abusive ex-husband Ted White.

So hopefully the ‘Queen Diva’ approves of JHud. Jennifer’s an incredible actress and singer, but playing Aretha is no simple feat, especially from singing standpoint.
