Brothers: Taylor Bennett and Chance The Rapper

Hip hop artist, Taylor Bennett is the young brother to conscious hip hop artist, Chance The Rapper. The two Chicago natives are very close as Taylor is Chance’s only brother. Recently, Bennett took to Instagram to live his truth and reflect on what it’s been like to be openly gay.

Living His Truth:

On October 11th, and in some parts of the word it’s celebrated on the 12th, people across the world were sharing their coming out stories in support of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community. Chance The Rapper’s younger brother Taylor Bennett reflected on the time he first came out as a bisexual man, which was almost a year ago.

He wrote the following on Instagram:

The day before Taylor Bennett’s 21st birthday, on January 18th, he decided that he wanted to be more transparent with his fans. His motive for being more open was to help other people who may have been struggling with being honest about their sexuality. The younger brother to Chance The Rapper decided to come out to his friends and followers on Twitter.

Not only did fans quickly express their support for Bennett but Chance showed his support for his brother as well. Like many other people, Chance revealed that he had no idea that his brother was bisexual until he read it on the internet.

We honestly didn’t talk about it until after he put it out on Twitter… so I think it’s cool he could tell everyone via the Internet and kind of blunt the impact, said the Grammy-winning rapper, comparing this to how others would come out to family and friends individually. I think what he did was stronger than most people. I kinda just stepped back and… admired him, said Chance on the  Ebro in the Morning show.

Chance The Rapper and Taylor Bennett demonstrated an interest in the arts very early on, rapping with each other and building their skills.

Chance The Rapper, whose real name is Chancelor Johnathan Bennett, and his younger brother, Taylor Bennett, were born in Chicago, Illinois to Ken Williams-Bennett, an aide to former Chicago mayor Harold Washington and then-Senator Barack Obama, and Lisa Bennett. The Bennett boys have personally met former President Obama and even shared their aspirations to be rappers. Not only are the men both musically talented, they both are very passionate about improving their hometown. The Bennett boys pride themselves on giving back and improving their community. Besides being rappers and having an uncanny resemblance, both brothers are Christians and involved in social activism projects.

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
