Hip hop pioneer, Kidd Creole (57), who was a member of 70’s/80s group, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, has been charged with murder this morning. The member of the group who had us rapping the lyrics, “Don’t push me, ’cause I’m close to the edge, I’m trying not to lose my head…uh-huh-huh-huh-HUH!” has reportedly just gotten pushed to the edge on Wednesday (August 2, 2017) night.

It’s being reported that Creole (real name Nathaniel Glover) was walking down a New York street in Midtown when a drunk homeless man, named John Jolly (55), approached him and things took a weird turn for the worst. Police say Creole stabbed Jolly to death on Wednesday (August 2, 2017) night.

Here’s what was reported via NYDaily:

[Kidd Creole (Glover)] had a run-in with Jolly, who was drunk, a police source said. “They had no prior relationship,” the source said. “They had words. Things got out of hand. It was some sort of diss.” Glover thought Jolly — a convicted rapist and sex offender — was hitting on him, another source said. “He turned, interpreting that the guy was making an advance toward him,” the source said. “One thing led to another, and he shivved him twice in the chest,” the source said. Pedestrians called 911 for Jolly just before midnight on Tuesday because they thought he was passed out, cops said.

First responders were surprised to see multiple stab wounds in his chest, police said Wednesday. Medics rushed Jolly to Bellevue Hospital Center, where he died. “There were six people there, all tourists, all trying to help him,” said Van Scott, of Queens. “They thought he was overcome by the heat and then they saw he was stabbed. We just waited for the paramedics to come.”

Kidd Creole being arrested on Aug 3, 2017 after police ID him from surveillance footage in NY

Kidd Creole was ultimately identified by surveillance video, where the murder took place on E. 44th St. and Third Ave.. Creole frequented the area regularly, because he worked as a security guard and a handyman in that area.

All of this could have possibly been avoided, but sadly, this is just another reminder of how one split second decision could destroy the rest of our lives.

It’s really sad to see a cat who was responsible for making hip hop what it is, go out like that. Creole was one of the very first rappers to gain national attention with hits like “The Message, It’s Nasty, “Superrappin,'” and more, as well as being a Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame member since 2007.

Our condolences to the loved ones of John Jolly and we’ll keep y’all posted on the details of Kidd Creole’s arrest as the story develops.
