In case you haven’t heard by now, Will Smith’s father, Willard Carroll Smith, Sr. passed away in early November (2016) and ever since then Will Jr. has been silently grieving away from the media, understandably so.

He’s now in the pubic’s eye again, promoting his upcoming film, “Collateral Damage.” In doing so, he spoke about his dad’s death for the first time publicly and recalled how he dealt with his pain during a Q&A session on Facebook Live the other day.

Will revealed that he learned his Dad had cancer just as filming began for “Collateral Damage” and the one thing that helped him get through his extreme grief was filming the movie. Why? Because in the film, Will plays a father who loses his daughter, and Will said that filming those scenes is what ultimately helped him to open up with his Dad and it helped his Father’s transition something “beautiful,” as opposed to how horrific it would have been for him pain had he not been dealing with those emotions in the months prior during filming.

Watch the clip above of Will explaining what he had to deal with throughout the process (you can se the full interview below)…

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
