Wow! OITNB Actress, Laverne Cox, Shows Off Her Singing Skills & Shocks Everybody

Posted On : May 10, 2017

Laverne Cox is known as many things: as one of the very few transgender actresses who’s making noise in the mainstream media; as “Sophia” on the Netflix hit series, Orange Is The New Black; and as the transgender celebrity whom D.L. Hughley once stated his Caitlyn Jenner needs to take notes from (FYI: Caitlyn and D.L. have both publicly thrown shade at each other in the past).

Back to Laverne though, she has just introduced the work to a brand new side of herself, which she says is a very vulnerable, uncomfortable move for her. She shook up the internet today, with her opera singing skills! And get this, the woman can SING! In her online message she wrote “Be kind it was for charity. I love opera and it’s super duper vulnerable for me to post this and open myself up to all your criticism. But I wanna share my loves with you. So here it is.” Check Laverne’s video posted below and tell us what you think…

Sunday night I did something I rarely do. I sang live. I did it to support the incredible work of @theactorsfund which provides life saving and life sustaining support for members of the artistic community who fall on hard times. Find out more about the work #theactorsfund does and support them. Thank you @tvphelan for inviting me to be a of an amazing evening. This is "Donde Lieta" from Puccini's LA Boheme. Be kind it was for charity. I love opera and it's super duper vulnerable for me to post this and open myself up to all your criticism. But I wanna share my loves with you. So here it is. #opera #LaBoheme #leontyneprice #jessyenorman #MariaCallas #Diva #Soprano

See? Told y’all Laverne could sing. Her voice gave us vibes of the legendary 90 year old opera icon, Leontyne Price…

Be on the lookout for Laverne and the rest of the OITNB crew in season 5 on Netflix. Watch the trailer below…

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
