It’s Lena Horne! Her grandbaby’s name is Amy Lumet and she is the 51 year old daughter of Lena’s daughter, journalist/memoirist Gail Lumet Buckley (pictured below) and film director, Sidney Lumet. They also have another daughter, 48 year old Jenny Lumet, who is an actress and award winning screenwriter.

Amy looks like her Granny, doesn’t she?

She’s a also a writer and is known to be a socialite in L.A., D.C., and New York, but she and her sister were actually born in London, U.K. Amy’s a dedicated republican who was once married to political satirist/ writer, P.J. O’Rourke when he was 43 and she was 26. She also worked for former republican presidential candidate, John McCain, in the 90’s.

Here’s what Amy said about growing up in such famous families:
[quote_box_center]“I am so blessed to have my immediate and extended family. It’s not the fame issue — fame is fleeting — it’s the level of accomplishment by every single member of my family — immediate family, in-laws, steps, nieces, nephews, on and on — I am so proud to be a part of this group! [My] father, Sidney Lumet, and — of course — my late Grandmother, Lena Horne [are my rock]. (If I can bring any of her charisma to the stage, I will shine!)

I am so proud of the legacy of the senior generation and the ones behind them…growing up I just knew Dad as Dad and my Grandmother as G’ma, and that going to see them at work was a place of bright lights, noise, and crowds….it wasn’t like going to visit them at the office. My Dad made a lot of films in Europe during the 60’s and 70’s and we lived in London, Rome, Sweden. I wish I had been old enough to appreciate it when I was a child…funny expression, but true…and then over the years, I realized the incredible work and the contributions they each made to their field and to the world…it’s hard to say it without sounding trite, but here goes — I am a fan — pure and simple.”[/quote_box_center]

It looks like Lena Horne has left a strong lineage of creative and entertaining offspring. With six grandchildren (from her two children, Gail and the late Edwin Jones, who passed away in 1970) and three great-grandchildren, we’ll probably be seeing even more of them continuing Mrs. Horne’s legacy real soon.

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
