Congrats: Chilli & Dallas Austin Celebrate At 21 Year Old Son’s College Graduation

Posted On : June 1, 2018

TLC’s Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and her ex/hit producer, Dallas Austin, have a reason to smile from ear to ear right now. In fact, after seeing all that they went through prior to their son’s birth, witnessing what he’s accomplished now at 21, actually might make you a lil’ misty eyed.

They’re son, Tron Austin, has just graduated from Full Sail University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music. Full Sail, it’s one of the most prestigious universities in the world of music, entertainment, media, arts, and technology. Like his Pops, Tron is a music producer and like his moms, Tron is also a music performer, he’s a rapper. Check out what Chilli (47) and Dallas (47) just posted about Tron’s big day below…

A few weeks ago, Dallas posted video of Tron’s interview in the studio, as he recorded his album. It’s evident that Dallas is proud, but also in constant awe of watching the kid, whose snotty nose he used to clean, become a man who has, in some ways, accomplished things Dallas didn’t have the opportunity to:

Their History Wasn’t Pretty, But They Made It

Dallas and Chilli’s past relationship had it’s fair share of hurdles. They dated for many years, when TLC first started on LaFace Records in the 1990’s, and Dallas was TLC’s producer. In a 2010 interview, Chilli tearfully admitted the heartbreak she felt after aborting her and Dallas’ first pregnancy, at 20 years old. She regretted that decision every day, but said she felt pressured to do it from the record label and also Dallas, who volunteered the $300 for the abortion.

Chilli then admitted her constant regret (of aborting their baby) was so unbearable, that several years later she felt the only way to repair it, was by having a baby… and it had to be with Dallas. Obviously, Dallas also wanted to have a baby with her too, by that time:

“It messed me up,” Chilli said through tears. “I don’t know; It just, it broke my spirit. […] I feel like I became kind of like not my strong self anymore. I felt like I gave in and I broke to what someone else wanted. And I would break down and I would just cry because I wasn’t a mommy. I cried almost every day for almost nine years and then I was caught up, I had to have a baby.”

Even though they’re no longer together, 21 years later, they feel very blessed to have Tron.

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
