As you know, Prince and his new band, 3rdEyeGirl just released their new album, PlectrumElectrum, so we thought we’d put the new band to the test and ask y’all if you think they can hang with Prince’s 80’s band, The Revolution? Check them out and tell us what you think…

Here’s what we think: Prince hasn’t missed a beat since he was last signed to Warner Bros. almost 20 years ago. As far as 3rdEyeGirl, they definitely have skills…no doubt about it. All 3 members- drummer Hannah Ford Welton, guitarist Donna Grantis, and bassist Ida Nielsen have backgrounds and even degrees in rock and jazz, so that explains why they’re so cold blooded. The thing that’s still in question is can they match up to The Revolution, or even The New Power Generation? For us die-hard Prince fans, we’ll always prefer the original Revolution band: Wendy, Lisa, Doctor Fink, Dez Dickerson, Bobby Z., Andre Cymone, Brownmark, Eric Leeds, Gale Chapman, Miko Weaver, and even their “part time” member, Jerome Benton (of the Time). We love all 9 million members of that band…LOL (you don’t realize how big that band was until you have to shout out all of their names…LOL). So I think it’s going to take a minute for us to adjust to the new ladies, but since they’re good, it probably won’t take too long.

The bottom line is – there will never be a replacement for the old school Revolution, nor The New Power Generation…not NEVER, but Prince definitely did a helluva job creating this new group and when you listen to their album, PlectrumElectrum, the thing that’s refreshing is that you can tell they’re doing it for their love of music and NOT because they’re just trying to get a hot radio single and a hot club song, which seems to be the goal for a lot of today’s new artists.
