Many know singer, Akon, but his music executive brother, Abou “Bu” Thiam, is kinda like a big deal too. He was the youngest person to become Vice President of A&R for Def Jam Records at age 28, and worked with artists like Chris Brown, Rihanna, Jay-Z, T-Pain and more. Between 2011 and 2013, Bu was in a serious relationship with Diana Ross’s daughter/actress, Tracee Ellis Ross and they were oftentimes seen out together, showing all kinds of affection.

We all thought they were gonna last, especially since he was the only ‘boyfriend’ Tracee has ever gone public with, which made us know it was real. And also because in recent years, Bu left a flirtatious comment on one of Tracee’s social media posts (years after their break-up), telling her that she was “still fine.” In addition to that, Bu also boldly claimed that he and Tracee would “be lovers forever” and will always be in ‘each other’s lives’ in a 2016 interview. But unfortunately, they didn’t last…and in a prior interview with The Breakfast Club (see video below), Bu explained why he reportedly had to end things with the love of his life.

Bu Thiam Explains Why He & Tracee Broke Up

When asked if he was in love with his ex-girlfriend, Tracee, Abou “Bu” Thiam said he was, and apparently still is, in love with her and that any future girlfriend will have to respect that:

“Yeah I was in love for sho.’… Me and Tracee gon’ be lovers forever man. You know what I’m saying? Like, I really do believe that. Me and her have this genuine, unconditional relationship. … And anybody that comes in my life, like, they have to know that and vice versa with her.”

Bu on why they aren’t together:

“I believe that being with somebody…it’s like managing…it’s a real job. It’s a real responsibility. … And she’s in a place in her career that if I can’t give her all of me, I don’t wanna waste- not…waste her time- but I don’t wanna put her in that space. … So why not give her opportunity to find somebody else that can.”

He continued:

“By the way, I’mma be honest, out of all the females that I dated- and not to discredit all the other girls, because I’ve been with some good females in my life- but she has to be one of the most unconditional loving spirited, good people.”

Priceless!

When asked if he tells his current women that he might suddenly them to go back to Tracee, Bu’s reply was priceless:

“They know that (LOL), they BETTER know that. .. I mean, listen, who knows what the future holds…anything can happen at any given moment. So…I just take it for what it is and just allow it to be what it is.”

Not quite sure how far the former lovebirds take that “lovers” title that Bu described these days, but overall, they clearly have deep love for each other. Maybe one day they’ll rekindle that flame.

Meanwhile, Tracee is out here living the single life. At least that’s what she hinted to after their breakup. In an interview with Glamour Magazine, she revealed how she oftentimes copes with being lonely and she’s learned to become her own one-person-support-team when down:

Tracce E. Ross: “The key is you ask yourself, What do I need right now? I’ve cultivated a relationship with myself where I know I have choices…. I have a toolbox of ways I can find support; journaling is helpful, or meditation. And I have had to really make friends with loneliness. And know the difference between choice-ful solitude and lonely. [I find comfort in] being able to name it, to say I’m feeling lonely, then to have a tribe of people I feel safe enough with to share: This is how I feel.”

Tracee and Bu might as well get back together –if they secretly haven’t already– because they seemingly made a cool couple.

Details Of Akon’s Futuristic African City

It has now been confirmed that Akon will be building a new city on 2,000 acres of land. It will be a very short distance from the country’s capital city, Dakar, and only five minutes away from the brand new international airport in the area. That’s not the most interesting facts about Akon’s new city though.

Get this, the name of his city will be appropriately named, Akon Crypto City, and on it’s website, it really is described as the “real life Wakanda,” for it’s innovative currency. Oh yeah, we forgot tomention that the city’s currency will not accept money as barter, it will be a 100% crypto-currency based town, using Akon’s very own AKoin digital currency. Talk about ambitious, right?!!

This is almost like “Wakanda” meets “Zumunda,” the country where “Coming To America’s” ‘Prince Hakeem’ (Eddie Murphy had his own money-literally- with his face on the country’s bills- not Thomas Jeffersons! WOW!

Anyways, the futuristic Akon Crypto City will also give the great people of Senegal an opportunity to benefit from many modern built structures, including new universities, stadiums, light manufacturing facilities, and schools.

Overall, Akon has a greater intent with his new city and that is to help put the well deserved financial power back into the hands of the people of Senegal:

Via The Verge- Akon said blockchain technology and cryptocurrency could be “the savior for Africa in many ways” because of its high security factor. He said the app-based system “allows the people to utilize it in ways where they can advance themselves and not allow government to do those things that are keeping them down.”

It’s also being suggested that Akon’s new city is similar to a new plan that is currently being put into place in Marshall Islands, regarding their quest to become more independent:

According to The Verge, the Akon Crypto City website ‘shows a mock-up image of an app that would handle AKoin withdrawals, deposits, and transfers, along with financial services like micro-loans, and social media outlets and user-generated content. The system sounds something like what’s being planned in the Marshall Islands, where the government signed a law replacing the US dollar with its own sovereign cryptocurrency earlier in 2018.’

Akon has made history in more ways than just his ‘real life Wakanda-land.’ He’s also already made a HUGE difference in the lives of millions of African people, by bringing electricity to 15 African countries through his project, Akon Lighting Africa. According to Forbes, so far the Akon Lighting Africa project is responsible for “100,000 solar street lamps installed across 480 communities in 15 countries, along with 1,200 solar micro-grids and 5,500 indirect jobs created.”

The Senegal born brotha has always been the ambitious one. Much respect to Akon for taking the huge initiative to move his native continent forward!

Akon’s Presidential Pitch

The Konvict Music record label CEO was stopped by paparazzi at the airport and decided to take a few minutes to pitch his bid of running against Trump in 2020…that is, if Trump doesn’t get impeached before then. While discussing all of the changes he could make for the people of America, Akon also said he would love to have billionaire Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, as his Vice President. When asked how he would defeat Donald Trump, if he were to ‘hypothetically’ run against him in 2020, Akon had plenty to say…

Akon: “I would LOVE to debate Donald Trump, I’m looking forward t it. Matter of fact, man that sounded like music to my ears. If I could just be on the panel with Donald trump for one debate…I would just wanna challenge him on…all sorts of questions.”

Camera guy: Who would be your running mate?

Akon: “It’d probably be uh…Mark Zuckerberg. If I was to run for president, I would actually ask him to be my running mate. Because I think sometimes, it takes people from the outside, that really see life differently to make differences.

Now, in our president’s situation, as you can see, he’s making a HUGE difference, BUT the question is whether it’s positive, or negative.”

Another thing we found interesting, was that Akon admitted that he actually thinks Trump had what it takes to be a decent president, but that he screwed all that up with his biased views and selfish wealthy man tactics:

Akon: “I think Trump would’ve made a great president, if he made decisions for the PEOPLE.”

Akon went on to say that if Trump was “as passionate” for “the people,” as he is for his “own interests,” he would make a “great president.” However, just like much of America, Akon knows that, unfortunately, that ain’t the case for Trump and his political practices, as he has shown thus far.

Overall, Akon’s presidential dream may (or may not) be just wishful thinking on his part, but hey, at least the brotha has ambitions in life.

Akon Reveals How Government Blocked Him From Restoring Power To Puerto Rico

Speaking of Akon and the government, he recently revealed that his company, Akon Lighting Africa, was blocked by the U.S. government in their quest to restore power back to Puerto Rico, following the disastrous Hurricane Maria. Instead, the job was granted to a far less experienced company, reportedly connected to Trump.

By now, everyone knows Puerto Rico faced a brutal hurricane season last year and citizens are still struggling to recover. In fact, many areas of Puerto Rico remain without lights. Although Puerto Rico is part of the United States, unfortunately, the government has failed to provide the same type of disaster relief effort it has for others states such as Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida. When TMZ caught up with Akon, he was asked about the ongoing problems in Puerto Rico and what he revealed has sparked a media firestorm. The singer turned businessman revealed he could have restored power in Puerto Rico some time ago but the government shut down his efforts. After presenting the government with a promising program that could have worked in Puerto Rico’s favor, his bid was rejected.

“We actually presented a program for Puerto Rico and we got rejected,” Akon told TMZ. “We have the solution for Puerto Rico, clearly. We would’ve had power up in less than 30 days and they rejected us.”

March 2018 made six months since Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico and 11% of the population are still without power. As of January 2018, it was a staggering 50% who were without power.

According to the Huffington Post, the $300 million contract was initially given to a small Montana-based energy company known as Whitefish Energy. Despite the company’s reported lack of experience, the massive contract was granted which raised speculation of conflicting interests. Many speculated the company had ties to the Trump administration. The company was also accused of “lack of transparency” during the contract bidding process. Due to all of these factors, Puerto Rico ultimately canceled the contract, which further delayed the restoration of power. Even Akon admitted that he believes his company was rejected due to “politics, special interest and propaganda.” He also gave a brutally honest opinion of the government’s interests. “They don’t care about the people,” he added. “If that were the case, then they would have allowed us to go in and provide the solution.”

Not Just A Singer, But A Businessman On Many Levels

Akon has become a successful businessman over the years. In addition to his multi-platinum selling record label, Konvict Music, he also owns a profitable diamond mine in South Africa. He also owns an oil refinery company.
