However, it wasn’t her well-deserved recognition that got people talking the most. It was a sweet and heartfelt moment between Bassett and her close friend, fellow actress Regina King, that stirred up controversy online.

During the award ceremony, King had the honor of presenting Bassett with the prestigious award. In her heartfelt speech, King reflected on their sisterhood and the time they have spent working together in the industry. As Bassett took the stage to accept her award, she embraced King and gave her a brief kiss on the lips before they went their separate ways.

It’s disheartening to see such negativity overshadow a moment of recognition and sisterly love. The kiss between Bassett and King was an expression of love and admiration between two Black women who have fought side by side in Hollywood, challenging the stereotypes and barriers they face.

Love comes in many forms, and it’s a beautiful thing to witness, whether it’s romantic, platonic, or something in between.

Simply put, Angela Bassett’s long-overdue Oscar win is a moment to be celebrated, showcasing her incredible talent and contributions to the entertainment industry. Angela and Regina have are strong women though. For those who haven’t seen Monster’s Ball, Halle Berry turned heads with her sizzling sex scene alongside Billy Bob Thorton. The scene was definitely Halle like you’ve never seen her before. Because of the scene’s explicit nature, Angela Bassett said it was just a role she would have had to decline, hands down and referred to is the role of a “prostitute.”

“I wasn’t going to be a prostitute on film,” [Bassett] says. … ”I couldn’t do that because it’s such a stereotype about black women and sexuality.” She says, ”Film is forever. It’s about putting something out there you can be proud of 10 years later. I mean, Meryl Streep won Oscars without all that.”

Time…it sure does come at us fast, right? Well, at least with the exception of Angela Bassett’s anti-aging sexy physique at 60 years young…but other than that, time FLIES – her and actor husband, Courtney B. Vance’s, twins are proof of this.

That Was Then…
Seems like it was just yesterday that Bassett and Vance were sitting on Oprah Winfrey’s talk show in 2007, with their then toddler fraternal twins- daughter, Bronwyn Golden, and son, Slater Josiah. At that time, Angela and Courtney revealed the many struggles thy had conceiving. They’d tried to do so for seven years straight, and Angela even used IVF treatments, but to no avail.

The reality that she may never get pregnant took a toll on her emotionally and psychologically:

“I was devastated when it didn’t happen [again and again]. I had to remain hopeful and resilient and, ‘Okay, let’s do it again’,” Bassett told Winfrey.

It wasn’t until a friend hipped Vance and Bassett to the idea of surrogacy, that they’d finally found hope. A surrogate mother carried their twin babies, but the babies only have the DNA of Angela and Courtney.

Thankfully, Bronwyn and Slater made their grand entrance into the world just fine and wait ’til y’all see how much the teenagers have grown since…

Okay Mrs. Bassett we see you! Look fabulous at age 60. The Internet nearly lost its mind when the images of Angela Bassett hit. Angela Bassett always stuns, regardless of what she’s wearing.

Bassett was out and about just ahead of her taping of Jimmy Kimmel Live. Who would have thought that a simple casual ensemble of a tracksuit would have had heads turning?

The Oscar-nominated actress wore a two-piece green tracksuit with orange and white vertical stripes, a zip-up top and orange sneakers. She had her black locks down and flowing and carried an iPhone and her keys as she prepared for her appearance.

Bassett, who famously portrayed Tina Turner in the 1993 film What’s Love Got to Do with It, praised Franklin’s groundbreaking work – and the fearlessness which she approached it with.

‘One of the things that sticks with me about her music too, as a black woman, is she was talking about sexuality,’ she said. ‘Owning who you are as a black woman. And we really didn’t hear women talking about that and being proud of being sexual and loving and all of those things, which kind of blew my mind.’

It’s been 20 years since Angela Bassett brought “Stella” to life in that 1998 cult classic film, but fast forward to now and our girl, Ang,’ doesn’t have to go get her “groove back,” because it NEVER left! That is evident in the new bikini photo she posted for her 60th orbit around the sun on August 16th.

Sure, we’re a lil’ tardy for the party with this belated B-day wish to the “Waiting To Exhale” veteran, but when we stumbled across her photo today, we gasped…then “exhaled” at the sight of the 60 year old banger. Bassett Receives 3rd Yale Degree

On Monday (May 21, 2018), Angela Bassett strutted across Yale’s graduation stage to lock down her third degree from her alma mater. She was one of Yale’s 10 2018 honorary degree recipients and was presented with the Doctorate of Fine Arts degree at the ceremony.

In 1980, Angela earned a B.A. (Bachelor of Arts) degree in African American studies and by 1983, she earned her M.F.A. (Masters of Fine Arts) degree at Yale School of Drama.

Proud of the honor she received from this year’s graduation ceremony at her alma mater, the “Black Panther” star shared a video clip of it online, with a caption filled with gratitude…and a “Wakanda” shout out:

‘Watch What Happens’:

A couple days ago, Angela Bassett appeared on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens”. During the show, Andy Cohen read a few of the fans’ comments and one fan complimented Angela Bassett and admitted that she was more than deserving of an Academy Award for her leading role in Whats Love Got To Do With It. For those who don’t remember the upsetting 1994 Academy Awards, the award was given to Holly Hunter for “The Piano”. Surprisingly, Angela Bassett finally admitted she agrees with the fans. After the fan reiterated that she deserved to win that award, Bassett simply laughed and said, “Yeah, me too,” to which Andy Cohen added, “Good, I agree.”

On Her Career:

Angela Bassett’s appearance on “Watch What Happens” follows her recent interview with the ‘LA Times.’ During the interview, she discussed her acting career revealing she’s never portrayed characters based on “type.” Instead, she opts for roles that suit her.

“You don’t become an actor so you can do 30 years and get the watch,” Bassett said. “To be so bold as to choose this type of career you want to keep it interesting and keep walking out on the ledge. You don’t know what you’re doing next month or next year — if you have a job at all. But you can’t not do it. You have to go for it.”

“Part of me had to rise to the idea that I would be portraying a queen,” she said. “To see what it looks like in that form was interesting. Although historically, for us, we have considered our mothers our queens. Our heroines, our Rosa Parks, our Winnie Mandelas, our Tina Turners – in terms of their gifts, their resilience, their commitment to our culture and our community. They were our queens and now there’s this new image of a queen. Even though in a comic-book fashion, she’s so grounded. To finally have one of our own – I was really humbled by that.”

During the interview, she also reflected on her iconic role of Tina Turner in “What’s Love Got To Do With It.” She shared her opinion of what she felt made Tina so special. “Here was this simple woman and what she was able to make of herself with this tremendous talent was amazing. The personal trauma that was put upon her, but the resilience that resided in her spirit and hers alone. The strength it took to walk away from it and return more magnificent than she was previously. We all possess it if we tap into it.”

Angela Bassett may have more than 30 years as an actress under her belt, but fans are more than sure there will be even more iconic roles to come. Hopefully, Bassett gets all the props she deserves.

Another thing she’s known for is her incredible physique at 58 years old. While we all appreciate her figure, her obvious love for the gym isn’t only motivated by her desire to maintain her bangin’ coke bottle shape. Her physique is also the result of her extreme dedication toward living a healthy lifestyle, which she’s partly learned from the health issues that claimed her beloved Mother’s life.

Bassett’s mother, Betty Jane, sadly passed away in 2014 from heart disease caused by Type 2 diabetes. Now Angela is doing everything in her power to help others avoid the same fate.

Via Essence: “She had heart disease, high blood pressure, and complications with that. Each exacerbated the other. Sometimes just trying to grab ahold of all these different issues simultaneously was hard. Listening to your doctors and taking that advice and doing it is vital.”

“She had a very, very strong constitution, so I know that if she was able to get that under control she’d be sitting beside me today.”

Bassett On What We Should Do To Avoid Heart Disease & Diabetes

“In general we know that moving, and being mindful of things that we put in our body [is important]. Whether it’s processed, or heavily laden with preservatives or sugar. In our community we talk about having ‘a little sugar’. It sounds like a cute thing but we know it’s not. I think we should call it for what it is: diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. We’re saddened that Angela Bassett lost her Mother from a disease that affects far too many Americans. There are currently 29 million people living in the U.S. who are inflicted with Type 2 diabetes. So seeing Mrs. Bassett use her heartbreak and her celebrity to do her part in educating all of us on this issue, is very admirable. Much respect to her for doing so.
