It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly six years since the world loss comic legend, Charlie Murphy, in April 2017. As we continue to celebrate his legacy, we wanted to share the little known details about the time he publicly discussed the pain of losing the love of his life – his wife. For Charlie’s brother, Eddie Murphy, and the rest of the Murphy fam,’ the pain of losing Charlie will never subside. and unfortunately, there was once a time when Charlie was faced with a similar heartache.

His Wife’s Illness:

Back in 2009, Charlie grieved the loss of his wife, Tisha Taylor. During a past interview, Charlie admitted the impact of his wife’s death was devastating and it changed him forever. He also revealed what she did just days before her tragic death. “I came home and she’s in the kids’ room, crying. That’s when she told me. Cervical cancer. You don’t really grasp it. When the person tells you they’re going to die, you go crazy. You become a different person from the moment you hear those words.”

Charlie explained how disheartening his wife’s illness was because she took her health seriously. Then, he explained things from a different perspective noting how some people live long, fulfilling lives despite harmful practices like drug and alcohol abuse. “A young woman like that — don’t drink, don’t smoke, don’t do drugs. I know people that’s ninety who do all of that.”

Despite her heartbreaking condition, she even had the strength to plan her own funeral just days before she died.

“She’s a very organized woman. When she died, all the arrangements had been made. She made her own arrangements.”

“I’m Not Okay, You’re Never Really Okay”:

Charlie also admitted something about death that most grieving people can probably agree with: Losing someone special isn’t something you ever get used to; You just learn to “live with it.” Instead of denying his feelings, the comedian/actor shared his true feelings. “I’m not okay; you’re never really okay you just learn to live with it. That’s something monumental, losing somebody that close in your life. It happened to my children, and me you don’t get used to [it] and you don’t get over it,” Charlie said.

He also shared his perspective of love and what it really means to meet and connect with the one person you refer to as “your soulmate.” “We fit,” Murphy explained. “I don’t believe that you can meet another person that fits just like that. She wasn’t even another person. She’s a mirror, you know what I mean. It was like that for twenty years.”

Charlie Murphy is survived by his three children; two of which he had with Tisha, and one from a previous relationship.

Shortly after Charlie Murphy’s passing, D.L. Hughley paid several tributes to his comedic friend on his social media pages. As you know, Charlie passed away at 57 from a long bout with leukemia. In a few of D.L.’s online tributes, he also explained what he witnessed Charlie do for his children up until his last breathe. He recalled how Charlie was working until his last days on tours with him and other comics, and how Charlie had dedicated his entire being to his three children- two of whom sadly lost their mom in 2009:

In a 2007 interview, Charlie also discussed his love for his kids and shared a great story about the values he and his wife were teaching the two youngest ones, at the time, about giving back. He also joked about his brother, Eddie’s financial influence on his kids:

Charlie Murphy: I’m a big softie when it comes to my kids, definitely. I enjoy the holidays and I enjoy it because to me the holidays is all about family, seeing them enjoying one another and having fun. I’ve got one daughter … and I have a son. … Then I have another son.”

“They know who the rich person is. They know who to go to for the big stuff. I’ll say no. I’ll be like, “What? Come on, man.” Oh, he’s gotten them all kinds of incredible stuff. What we do, my son whose [now nine] gets little toys way before Christmas. Like a month before Christmas, we take all his old stuff and we give it away because there’d be no room. He has to give everything, has to trade all new toys, we have to just throw it away. The ones we haven’t been playing with and then he gets new stuff. We don’t throw it away, we give it away.”

The sad part is that in 2011, Charlie revealed in an interview, how his then-5-year old daughter was grief-stricken about the death of her mother, Tisha:

“My daughter’s five years old, man. She asks for her mother every day,” he revealed to Esquire.

The unwavering love Charlie showed his children will never be forgotten, nor mistaken by them…we’re pretty sure of that. They lost their hero on April 12, 2017, but they gained the beautiful energy of a beautiful soul that will still reside in their hearts every step of the way. Power star, Omari Hardwick, is speaking out about something he regrets doing to his former Power co-star, Charlie Murphy, even though his actions were not intentional.

As you all know, when comedian/actor, Charlie Murphy, passed away in April 2017, to the surprise of his fans. Little did we know at that time though, it was also a shock to those who knew him personally as well.

Omari was among that long list of those who were unaware that he had a life threatening illness, during the time he filed his last work, which was on Power. On the hit series, Murphy played a correctional officer who had it out for “Ghost” (Omari Hardwick), during “Ghost’s” prison stint.

In a prior interview on Hot 97, Omari revealed why he now regrets how their scenes played out, now that Charlie has passed away.

What Hardwick Confessed About What He Regrets Doing To Murphy On The “Power” Set

During his Hot 97 interview, Omari recalled the time where he remembers getting more respect as an actor. According to him, that was during season 4 of Power and due to the fact that he was stripped of “Ghost’s” business suits ad clean shaven appearance and ‘spent most of that season in orange jumpsuits. Therefore, says Omari, his acting abilities were not hidden behind the ‘look’ of Ghost, and were instead placed into the forefront of the viewers’ minds.

While discussing season 4, Omari also said he regrets fighting Charlie Murphy back in that scene, because he had no idea the beloved Murphy was in his last days. He admitted that had he been informed of that fact, he would have pulled Courtney Kemp (co-executive producer of Power) to the side and politely declined the fight scene with Charlie.

However, the Power star is also aware that Charlie Murphy kept his illness away from most people who knew him and/or worked with him. So no one, including Power’s execs were probably aware of Charlie’s then dire situation.  Check out what he said about this below:

Hardwick- “In reality it was season 4, where everyone went, ‘Ohhh…he’s an actor!’…because season 4 is when I had on an orange jumpsuit for most of the season. I didn’t have the trickery of the suits. I didn’t have a clean face, it was scruffy…”

I had -rest in peace- very skinny, great comedic timing brother of Eddie Murphy-Charlie Murphy, beatin’ my a$$, who had I known he was dying of cancer, I would’ve looked at Courtney and gone, ‘I can’t do that’…unless you change the storyline. I can’t fight him BACK.”

When Charlie Passed Away, Omari Recalled Getting The News On Set

Omari was on set when he received the text message about Charlie’s passing:

“I got a text from Nile Rogers- who was doing publicity for us back then- and I KNEW it..in my spirit, I knew it. …And when I got the text, I knew that was somebody calling about Charlie.”

He continued:

“I did not know that he had cancer, but I knew that he was sick. By the time we had finished the season, I was like, ‘He’s sick.'”

Fortunately for Omari Hardwick, he doesn’t have to feel guilty about the fight scene with Charlie Murphy. Given Charlie’s strong, fighter spirit up until the end of his life, he probably would not have wanted that Power fight scene to go down any other way.

Charlie Murphy was a prideful man, who never wanted anyone to treat him any differently than the next man. May he continue to rest in power.

Eddie once revealed, to Rolling Stone Magazine, surprising details of how his dad, Charles Edward Murphy (not pictured), was killed when Eddie was a kid. First, Eddie explained this:

“My mother (pictured above) and father broke up when I was three, and he died when I was eight, so I have very dim memories. Every now and then, I wonder what it would be like if he was still here.

Eddie then described how his Dad was murdered at just 28 years old:

“He (Eddie’s dad, Charles) was a victim of the Murphy charm chuckles. A woman stabbed my father. I never got all the logistics. It was supposed to be one of those crimes of passion: ‘If I can’t have you, then no one else will’ kind of deal. Someone said to me one day, ‘That’s why you don’t trust women.’ Get the fu*k outta here. What are you, a fu*%ing psychiatrist?” said Eddie.

“I don’t think the two have anything to do with each other. But I was really fu*%ed up about his death. It was really traumatic.”

Eddie also said, “I do have two fathers,” referring to his biological dad, Charles, and his stepfather, Vernon.

EDDIE WAS DISTRAUGHT AFTER STEPFATHER DIED IN HIS ARMS

A family friend once revealed: “As Vernon’s breathing became more and more shallow, Eddie started to cry and leaned over and whispered in his ear: ‘You’ve been a wonderful father, and I hope I’m half the father to my kids that you’ve been to me. I love you, man.’”

Hie Father’s death, combined with pain of losing his brother, Charlie Murphy are very sad indeed.. Thankfully, through it all, Eddie keeps proving this Old School saying true: ‘What doesn’t kill you, can only make you stronger.’

Charlie’s and Eddie’s brother is Vernon Lynch, one half of K-9 Posse!

Vernon is now a TV producer who has a very successful production company along with his business partner, Jeff Dyson (the former long time bodyguard of New Edition, who was portrayed in The New Edition Story), called Dyson-Lynch Entertainment. Their company is responsible for several reality shows, including OWN Network’s Shanice & Flex reality show, as well as VH-1’s Hollywood Exes, which starred Eddie’s ex, Nicole Brown Murphy, R. Kelly’s ex, Martin Lawrence’s ex, Jose Conseco’s ex, and Will Smith’s ex.

In terms of his rap career, it was revealed that it was his brother Charlie who finally convinced him to form the group, K-9 Posse, along with his friend Wardell. Charlie also is listed as executive producer on their album.

It was Charlie’s influence that led to Vernon’s interests in entertainment and ultimately led to his continued contributions to it behind the scenes.

In case you’re wondering why Vernon’s last name is ‘Lynch’ and not ‘Murphy,’ it’s because he actually has a different father from Charlie and Eddie, but they all have the same mother, Lillian Lynch. Vernon’s father, Vernon Lynch Sr., is the man whom Eddie once credited for teaching him much of everything he knows and whom he viewed as his second father, although he did know his biological dad as well. Vernon was their mother’s husband, who was oftentimes pictured with Eddie on red carpet events and such.

The Murphy family appears to be a very tight knit family who puts family first, so we can only imagine the heartache they’ve endured after losing Charlie. He definitely added light to the world through his comedy and magnetic personality. C. Murphy will continue to be sorely missed by us all.

The world knows all about the iconic Eddie Murphy and his accomplishments- from Saturday Night Live, to Trading Places, to Raw, Delirious, Coming To America, and, The Nutty Professor, beyond. We also know all about his brother, the late Charlie Murphy, ever since he made his presence known on The Chappelle Show,  The Boondocks, Black Jesus, and more. BUT little did many of Eddie’s and Charlie’s fans know, their other brother has made a name for himself in the entertainment world. His career started in 1988 and he’s still doing his thing in 2019. By the way, if it were not for the help and encouragement of Charlie Murphy, their brother wouldn’t have even started his career in entertainment at all. Scroll down to peep who he is…

Charlie’s and Eddie’s brother is Vernon Lynch, one half of K-9 Posse!

Vernon is now a TV producer who has a very successful production company along with his business partner, Jeff Dyson (the former long time bodyguard of New Edition, who was portrayed in The New Edition Story), called Dyson-Lynch Entertainment. Their company is responsible for several reality shows, including OWN Network’s Shanice & Flex reality show, as well as VH-1’s Hollywood Exes, which starred Eddie’s ex, Nicole Brown Murphy, R. Kelly’s ex, Martin Lawrence’s ex, Jose Conseco’s ex, and Will Smith’s ex.

In terms of his rap career, it was revealed that it was his brother Charlie who finally convinced him to form the group, K-9 Posse, along with his friend Wardell. Charlie also is listed as executive producer on their album.

It was Charlie’s influence that led to Vernon’s interests in entertainment and ultimately led to his continued contributions to it behind the scenes.

In case you’re wondering why Vernon’s last name is ‘Lynch’ and not ‘Murphy,’ it’s because he actually has a different father from Charlie and Eddie, but they all have the same mother, Lillian Lynch. Vernon’s father, Vernon Lynch Sr., is the man whom Eddie once credited for teaching him much of everything he knows and whom he viewed as his second father, although he did know his biological dad as well. Vernon was their mother’s husband, who was oftentimes pictured with Eddie on red carpet events and such.

The Murphy family appears to be a very tight knit family who puts family first, so we can only imagine the heartache they’ve endured after losing Charlie. He definitely added light to the world through his comedy and magnetic personality. C. Murphy will continue to be sorely missed by us all.
