Dominic Breazeale didn’t realize it until it was too late. Deontay Wilder’s right hand had already connected. Next thing the opponent knew, he was getting up.

But, unfortunately, he didn’t get up in time…

CBS Sports reports that the match happened at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York. Deontay Wilder — whose record stands at 41-0-1, 40 KOs — concluded with another spectacular, “obliterating” finish… a brutal, round 1 knockout at 2:17.

And with an 83-inch reach, his fist arrived at Breazeale’s chin a lot sooner than he might’ve anticipated. Speaking of anticipation, there was a lot of it in the week building up to the event. After the fight, Wilder mentioned as follows:

“Everything just came out of me tonight. I know there was a lot of words and animosity against each other and it just came out tonight. This is what makes boxing so great when you can have so much inside and just overcome.”

According to CBS Sports, 33-year-old Wilder first obtained the WBC title in 2015. Since then, this has been Deontay’s ninth defense.
