Iyanla is by far the GOAT when it comes to tough love. She plays no games, and wants the best for her clients. She even refers to them as ‘beloved’, which is a beautiful term of endearment that assists with their healing. And she has no problems assisting everyone from the everyday person to people in the public spotlight. A few years ago she decided to assist Keyshia Cole’s sister Neffeteria “Neffe” Pugh as she encountered issues with her husband. Though there was a great bit of progress made, it took a lot of hard moments between the two of them to get there.

Iyanla knows how to get the entire truth out of folks. But with someone like R. Kelly the truth isn’t always a subject he likes to admit. And she gave her thoughts on whether or not she would assist him with his healing at this time.

‘He Ain’t My President’

In a new interview with The Grio Live, Iyanla was asked about Donald Trump. That’s when she made it clear that she does not acknowledge him as her president:

“There’s an occupant in the White House, but I do not have a president.”

Vanzant also said this about Trump’s self centered ways:

“I wouldn’t let my grandchildren behave in such a way. I don’t know what that is. That’s an elected official, or that’s someone living in public housing, because the White House, as Michelle Obama told us, was built by Black folks.”

She was also asked if she thought that she could “fix” Trump, to which Iyanla replied “No,” stating that the only one who could “fix” Trump is “Jesus….But it’s not about fixing his life,” she added. “To fix means to restore, renew and make use for the original purpose. That’s what fix means when I use it. He has a purpose–which is to love. But he’s not willing.” Then came that hardcore reality check that Iyanla is known for giving…

Iyanla: We Are ALL Like Trump, Here’s How…

Iyanla then revealed that although she knows many folks may not want to hear what she was about to say next, it needed to be said. She pointed out that we’re all like Trump in many ways. Iyanla says as humans, we’re full of judgmental thoughts and contradictions. For example, like the time Trump said “I really believe I’d run in there even if I didn’t have a weapon,” in response to the recent massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, knowing damn well he would not have “run in there,” especially if he was unarmed…but I digress. At any rate, Iyanla broke down the ways in which we are a lot like Trump:

“People will probably throw things at me for saying this, but he is us. He’s doing publicly what we do privately. He talks like we talk, he thinks like we think. We all have comments that we make about other groups of people. We all say one thing and switch it tomorrow,” Iyanla explained. “When we get called on our bad stories and bad behavior, then we make excuses for [it]. He IS us and we’re looking at him and making it about him and we’re not changing ourselves.”

She continued:

“I can look at him and say, ‘Oh, I use to say that. Oh, I use to do that.’ Look at what he does, not what comes out his mouth. Dishonesty. Who can say that haven’t been dishonest? Who can say when they get called on their stuff, for their faults and their shortcomings, that they don’t excuse it or deflect from it and start talking about something else? Who can say that they don’t have judgements and prejudices about another group or another community? As long as we keep making it about him, nothing is going to change. Everybody needs to look at him and drop to one knee and say holy spirit heal me!”

Iyanla On Trump’s “Sh*thole Countries” Comment

No matter how much we may, or may not share personality traits with Trump, there’s one thing many of us disagree with him on- that countries made up predominantly of people of color are “sh*thole countries.” Iyanla also disagrees with that and during her interview, she even joked about Trump’s racist statement:

“I called my cell phone carrier and told them I wanted to upgrade my international plan to sh*thole, and they said ‘What?’” Iyanla said laughing. “It must exist. Surely you cover it in your international plan because that’s where my ancestors come from. So I want to include that in my international plan. I kept them on the phone seven minutes.”

Iyanla says that Trump is spewing “very violent” speech damn near every time he opens his mouth in the media and she refuses to support that.
