Okay ILOSM fam’ you spoke and we listened. After our first article on the Caucasian soul singers from back in the day, you all had so many more that you wanted us to add to the list that we had to do a part 2. These singers had a whole lot of folks fooled. When we first heard them on the radio, you couldn’t tell us we weren’t listening to a brotha (or sista) singing, BUT we eventually found out we were wrong and that the soul singers we were bobbin’ our heads to were our brothas/sistas from another Mother. These are more examples that soul music doesn’t have color, it simply has soul.

KC and the Sunshine Band – Most of us thought this was a group like Earth, Wind & Fire or the Ohio Players until we saw them on “Midnight Special” and saw that white guy leading those hits like “Boogie Shoes”, “I’m Your Boogie Man” and “Do You Wanna Go Party”. They had even more smashes on the disco and R&B charts like “Shake Your Booty” and “That’s The Way I Like It,” but they weren’t all white. Most of that flashy horn section was black. So they were a mixed band, but the lead guy, K.C., was white.

The Average White Band – “A Love Of Your Own” still sounds like Earth Wind & Fire. These mostly white guys were bad no doubt! They do have one brotha in there though. Other hits include “Cut The Cake” and “Pick Up The Pieces.”
