We’re willing to bet though, that there is no greater accomplishments and proud moments for Babyface, than his children. He has three: sons, Dylan and Brandon, with ex-wife Tracey Edmonds; and his youngest child, daughter, Peyton, with his current wife, Nicole.

His youngest son, Dylan, is the Edmonds kid who most reminds us of his daddy in several ways.

Although many Babyface fans probably never knew -or maybe forget- that his eldest son, Brandon, even exists, due to his low profile, we did get to see his youngest son, Dylan make a few appearances on reality TV. In case you caught a few episodes of Tracey’s and her man, Deion Sanders’ show, Deion’s Family Playbook, you probably remember seeing a much younger Dylan on there.

This Is Now…

The thing that has now caught our attention is just how fast that young man has grown up. He was just a little kid on the show, but now he’s taller than his Pops. He’s just as introverted and laid-back as his hit-making father too. In addition to that, Dylan looks like Babyface pretty much spit him out, as you can see in the photos below…

In March 2022, Dylan turned 21 years old. And although most young people his age love turnin’ up on social media for their b-days, Dylan seems to have inherited his pop’s low key characteristics…and instead welcomed his 21st away from the public’s eye.

With the exception of their complexion difference, one glance at Dylan and you’d think you were looking at a young Babyface a few years before he made his introduction to the world in his ’80s R&B group, The Deele. Remember the Deele, with L.A. Reid and the rest of their members? They were the TRUTH back in the day, with songs like “Two Occasions” and “Shoot ‘Em Movies”…

But I digress…back to Dylan Edmonds though, he’s done a wonderful job at making all of us, here at ILoveOldSchoolMusic, feel old as hell. But it’s all good. Wishing that young brotha all the best with his future endeavors.

He long ago proved himself as a FIRE producer and good artist, but another thing he’s proven is that he is a devoted father, who’s always preferred being in longterm relationships.

By now, we know about his prior 15-year marriage to ex-wife, Tracey Edmonds. They said “I do” in 1992, had two sons, and ultimately divorced in 2007. Some years later, Babyface kept it 100% real with his fans when he revealed, in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, that he loves Tracey, but was actually never in love with her. That would probably explain why he was so easily able to move on to the next…

Meet Babyface’s Wife

In the same year that he and Tracey divorced, Babyface (64) began a serious relationship with his then girlfriend, Nicole “Nikki” Pantenburg (49), who also happens to be Janet Jackson’s close friend and former backup dancer.

Some of us may remember seeing Nikki on stage with Janet Jackson back in the day. She was one of her background dancers during the ’90s.

In addition to being a professional dancer, Nikki also dabbled in acting. She appeared on a few films and also made guest appearances on the 90’s sitcom, Moesha, as the character, “Teresa.”

Meet Their Daughter…She Can Sing!

Things between Babyface and Nikki really sped along when their adorable little girl, Peyton “Nicole” Edmonds, was born the following year in May 2008. Peyton is now 13 years old and just as cute as she wanna be. Their daughter is Nikki’s only child and Babyface’s third child. He has two older sons -Brandon and Dylan- with ex-wife, Tracey. Six years after having their daughter was born, Babyface and Nikki decided to jump the broom. Several celebs attended their wedding in Southern Cali., including Oprah and the rest is history. Mr. and Mrs. Edmonds have been going strong ever since.

And we can’t end this, without giving Babyface his props for making 64 look like the new 34! Is it just us, or does Babyface look like he’s barely aged since he was singing “Two Occasions” with The Deele in 1987?!! Keep doing your thing Babyface, we see you!

Usher dropped a few unknown tidbits of old school facts about his personal life and his career, which seemed to kinda all be intertwined together. In a previous interview with The Roots’ drummer, Questlove, on his Pandora radio show, Questlove Supreme, Usher chopped it up about everything, from how he got caught up in music legends, Antonio ‘L.A.’ Reid’s and Kenny ‘Babyface’ Edmond’s beef back in the day, to how Tevin Campbell ended up getting work that was originally meant for him; to issues with his ex-wife/mother of his two kids, Tameka Raymond, and also his mother/ex-manager, Jonetta.

L.A. Reid & Babyface Drama Led To Tevin Campbell Taking Usher’s Songs

It turns out “Can We Talk” was originally Usher’s song…until Babyface gave it away to Tevin Campbell in order to spite LA Reid at that time, according to Usher:

Usher: “When I first signed to LaFace Records, I wanted to do an album with Babyface and LA Reid, right? I signed specifically for that reason. So LA Reid wanted Babyface to work on me…and they were going through, you know, a lot of drama at the time. They were kinda severing their ties. He [Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds] got mad…and he built an entire album for me, and he gave the whole album to somebody else…Tevin Campbell! ‘Can We Talk’…was my song…”

“Can We Talk” ended up being the biggest song of Tevin’s career. It stayed at #1 on the R&B charts for weeks and the entire album, I.m Ready, sold 2 million+ albums. By the way, I dig Usher and Tevin, but I gotta admit that after the way Tevin killed it on “Can We Talk,” I couldn’t imagine ANY other singer recording that song…not even Usher.

Issues With His Momager vs. His Mother

Usher’s mother was his manager for years, until he fired her. But he acknowledges his gratitude for her…

Usher: “I’m a grown man in theory because I’ve always been the man of the house…I’ve elected to be the provider of the family even though my mother is the protector…she crippled me a little bit for a minute because my focus wasn’t, had nothing to do with business. Had everything to do with art and I thank her for that because I wouldn’t of established the focus that I have now…if I was always kind of trying to figure out who’s trying to take the money, where the money’s coming from, I would’ve been petty…I would have lost sight of what the goal was…”

Biggest Regret? Denying A Young Chris Brown

Usher: “So there’s one thing in my career that I definitely regret, one thing. And to this day I battle with it which is why I always show support of this artist whenever he asks…So his manager comes in…They show him to me…I was working on an album at this time, they wanted him to perform on this album…I was like okay cool…Then I went to my team and they was like ‘I don’t think you should work with this artist’…Then he left…Chris Brown.”

There were rumors that Usher fired his mother because she didn’t approve of him marrying Tameka and that caused tension in their professional life. Usher didn’t specify if the firing rumor was was true, but he did acknowledge that his Mom tried to warn him about marrying Tameka…

Usher: “That marriage and that relationship was gonna come to an end…but it served a purpose in my life…And no matter what my mother was attempting to tell me, and a lot of people were trying to tell me about that, I think a lot of it had to do with my lack thereof a father…I did not want to be a person who would just roll out…”

Babyface sat down in an interview a while back, with Oprah and he revealed a whopper: that he was never in love with his wife of 13 years, Tracey Edmonds. He said he was with her because he loved her as a person, but that neither of them were ever in love with each other. Wow! That must of been ridiculously miserable for both of them.

If you’re a fan of Babyface, you probably recall when many folks were calling Tracey Edmonds a gold digger after Babyface met her in 1990 on the set of his “Whip Appeal” video. For some reason, people were throwing jabs at Tracey because they just couldn’t believe that she was with him for nothing more than being genuinely attracted to him emotionally and physically. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but she caught a lot of flack after marrying Edmonds two years later.

They soon became parents to their sons, Dylan and Brandon, and divorced in 2005. Babyface also held nothing back in this interview when he explained why he thought Tracey’s marriage to Eddie Murphy in 2008 (although the marriage dissolved soon after) was a bad idea and he also said what he REALLY thinks about Tracey’s current boyfriend, Deion Sanders. We know we’ve just said a mouthful, but you can see how Babyface explained all of this below.

“The reality is that there was a connection that wasn’t really there,” Babyface said during a sit-down interview with Oprah. “We loved each other but we weren’t really in love with each other.
