During Nipsey Hussle’s funeral earlier this month his girlfriend Lauren London promised to keep his legacy alive and so far she has held true to her word. She’s gotten his face tattooed on her forearm and posted numerous photos and thoughts about their relationship to her social media. And while the rest of the world still mourns with her only a few know the pain attached to losing someone you love to gun violence. In an act of solidarity one woman, Nicole Paultre Bell, understands that pain all too well as her fiance Sean Bell was murdered by the NYPD in 2006 after leaving his bachelor party. Since that time Nicole has become an activist and she’s lending her support to Lauren as well.

Too Close Too Home

When news broke of Sean Bell’s death at the hands of the NYPD, the night before his wedding mind you, shockwaves pulsed throughout the entire community. Mainly because, at the time, we hadn’t become as accustomed to that type of devastating news on a weekly basis. However, his murder left us all reeling and questioning how something like this could happen. In reference to Nipsey’s death Hot New Hip Hop reports that Nicole, who has since remarried yet still retains Bell’s surname, had this to say;

“I’m replaying now everything that I went through the day I got the call and found out that Sean had been killed on my wedding day,” Paultre Bell tells theGrio. She said her thoughts instantly turned to London. “Immediately it was just like, ‘Oh my God, how is she going to pull through? How are the kids going to pull through? I don’t even know these people but I can feel them?”

Fans joined her by dropping off their tears

The texts imply that Berg shared an audio file likely with a song demo on it. “Yea I need this one!” Nip responded. Berg encouraged Rihanna vocals graced the track, it would be Billboard Hot 100 gold. Nipsey agreed, replying “We gotta get Rihanna then,” before locking in that he’d work on the track. The singer reposted the message with a tear-faced emoji as hundreds of fans joined her by dropping off their tears.

It’s heartbreaking that the world missed the opportunity of a Nipsey and RiRi collab. There’s talk about her possibly moving forth with the record. Releasing it posthumously in the case that Nipsey had already spit some bars on the beat.

Kodak Black is backing down from his disrespectful comments about Lauren London. But it’s a worthless apology if you ask me.

During a live broadcast on Instagram, Kodak Black announced that he had plans to wait “a whole year” before pursuing Nipsey’s Hussle’s girlfriend, who is grieving the loss of the father of her child, and soulmate.

The backlash started when LA’s Power 106 has banned his music, then rappers T.I. and The Game took notice.

His comments about Lauren London were disrespectful and insensitive.

“Lauren London that’s baby, though. She about to be out here single. She’s finna be a whole widow out here,” he said. “I’d be the best man I could be for her. I’ll give her a whole year. She might need a whole year to be crying and sh!t for dude (Nipsey).”

“I ain’t trying to shoot (my shot) at her.” he added. “I’m saying…She can do two, three years. I’ll try to be like the friend if you need to holla or a shoulder to lean on. She can call my line.”

Despite some backlash, Kodak doubled down on his comments in a later Instagram Live session. “Yeah, I say what I said. Hell, you expect her to be single forever? Hell yeah, she a bad b!tch,” he continued. “Anyone of y’all, if she tried to holla at anybody, y’all ain’t finna be like, ‘No, I can’t do it because of Nipsey.’”

The level of disrespect coming from Kodak Black’s mouth is beyond comprehension. While Lauren London is deeply mourning Nipsey Hussle’s death, he’s thinking about trying to “get in.” Wow!

Honestly, you don’t really expect much from this generation of rappers. However, Kodak Black’s comments toward Nipsey Hussle’s family shows the lack of compassion — or respect for the dead — people can have in this world.

People do or say some of the dumbest stuff while live-streaming. And apparently, Kodak Black took to his Instagram live feed while hanging with friends. While having a conversation — as if he wasn’t broadcasting it to the world — he basically starts talking about Lauren London, as TMZ puts it, “like she’s a piece of meat.”

Of course, one day, she’ll have to move forward while remembering Nipsey Hussle. But now’s definitely not the time for that kind of talk. Lauren hasn’t even had a full week to grieve yet.
