Many were very surprised to see that Debbie was in the heart of intensive cancer treatment because after word got out that Paris had rushed to be by her side a few years ago during her cancer struggle, nothing else was mentioned about Debbie’s diagnosis, so many assumed that she was now cancer free. Also, Paris had once again distanced herself from Debbie in recent years, according to many media reports, so that also fed into the belief that Debbie was okay.

The good thing is that Debbie has her daughter by her side now and we wish her a 100% recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with her.

As far as why Debbie decided to give away both of her children (Paris and Prince) as a “gift” to MJ (according to what she and MJ have both publicly stated), we’ll save that conversation for another day.

But just in case you’d like to know the back history of Debbie’s relationship with MJ and their children, here is a report from ABC News regarding statements Debbie Rowe gave in court:

For several years in interviews and court testimony, Rowe spoke highly of Jackson as a father and said that she had given birth to Jackson as a gift.

“I didn’t do it to be a mother. I didn’t change diapers. I didn’t get up in the middle of the night, even when I was there, Michael did it all,” she said. “We had a boom box, you know, we had the music on, and conversation, wow, here comes another one, Michael was so excited! And he brought Prince, and I said, ‘Are you sure he needs to be here?’ So, this is like, you know. And he said, ‘but this is so beautiful’.

In 2003, Rowe said that following the birth of their second child, a daughter, Paris…Jackson took the children and sent Rowe to live in a Beverly Hills mansion. “You know what Michael did? He got me the most fabulous place to live. If you read the tabloids, it’s the enclave of the enclave, Beverly Hills, which I have no idea what an enclave is, if it’s chic-chic it’s cool. I don’t know. It’s wonderful, beautiful yard, a place for my dogs to run and safe. And I went home. I recovered in my new home,” Rowe said.

In the 2000 divorce, Rowe relinquished custody. In another hearing in 2001, she relinquished parental rights. In testimony before the court, Rowe said she had little contact with the children and wanted to remain out of their lives. “I did it for him to become a father, not for me to become a mother. You earn the title parent. I have done absolutely nothing to earn that title,” she told the court.

It now seems eerie, but when lawyers asked if she had “ever considered the possibility if Michael should die, what would happen to the children,” Rowe said she trusted Jackson to pick an appropriate guardian. “I’m sure he has a wonderful person in mind to take care of them,” she told the court.

It makes you wonder if Debbie’s decision to give them away as “gifts” is the reason why we never see Prince with his Mom.

Just a few weeks ago, we watched her go to her Instagram page to relentlessly put some fans in their places over her Daddy and her lifestyle. She has since deleted her IG rant, but it was during her rant that she also revealed there was truth to the rumors that had been circulating about her having an addiction of some sort, when she stated that she has ‘AA meetings to go to.’ Then earlier this week we saw her make a bold move when she took to Instagram to debut her new makeover, rockin’ her fly, orange hued short ‘do.

But after overcoming her personal battles with alcohol, Paris, who is still 17 years old (she’ll be 18 on April 3rd) has now made it a point to go out in public view, displaying her new habit of cigarette smoking.  She was seen yesterday putting her smoking skills on blast for everyone to see and she could care less what anyone thought about it. Like we said, Paris has had many ups and downs in recent years, as she is forced to grow up in the public’s eye. Her admitting to being in Alcoholic’s Anonymous wasn’t the first issue she’s dealt with publicly. If you recall, in 2012 we all painfully  watched the home surveillance footage outside of Katherine Jackson’s home, when Paris appeared to be have a confrontation with her aunt Janet and her uncle Randy outside. In 2013, there were also rumors that Paris had allegedly attempted suicide by cutting her wrists and allegedly overdosing on pills, which then allegedly resulted in her attending a $10million therapeutic academy in Utah.

The bottom line is that while it may be easy for many of us to sit on the outside and judge Paris’ actions, she is at the age and the phase of life that many of us can actually relate to and that is when we try to define our identity and figure out who we really are as we approach adulthood. It just so happens to be that Paris lives a much more fast paced lifestyle than us regular folks, due to her family’s legacy and wealth. Therefore her experimentation with finding herself is the equivalent of an average person’s journey times one-hundred.

We’ve seen this more extreme form of growing up happen with many children of very successful celeb’s like Nicole Richie (Lionel Richie’s daughter), Chaka Khan’s son, and many more.

So Paris’ new smoking habit doesn’t necessarily warrant any judgement, but moreso simply just a quest to understand the vast amount of changes we’ve been witnessing her go through and having to do so in such a huge spotlight. Unfortunately Paris and her siblings do not have the luxury to screw up in private, that we all had. We wish her the best.

After getting repeated backlash about how she lives her life- folks were commenting about her cigarette habit, her Dad, her ex boyfriend, etc.- she took to her Instagram page to clap back at her haters. She even revealed her big secret when she confirmed that the rumors about her being an alcoholic and a rumored rehab stint were true:
“This is f*^king ridiculous,” she wrote. “I am expected to literally sit on my ass all day replying to comments people leave me (positive and negative)? I have AA meeting to go to. Family obligations. PERSONAL obligations.”
There have been recent rumors that while she was attending “therapeutic boarding school in Utah,” that she was actually in rehab for alcohol addiction. Well as you can see, Ms. Jackson ain’t shying away from who that fact any longer, nor is she about to fall victim to what we, here at ILOSM, call the ‘keyboard gangsters.’ Go ‘head Paris!

Unfortunately, MJ’s kids have indirectly inherited their Dad’s public scrutiny from many of his naysayers, and as a result, they don’t have the luxury that the rest of us had, and that is to make mistakes and learn from them in the privacy of our parents’ home, as we try to grow up and figure this thing called ‘life’ out. But it’s very refreshing to see that through all of her ups and downs, Paris is a fighter and she’s determined not to allow pettiness be her demise.
