On Sunday while in London to promote her best-selling memoir “Becoming” Michelle and late-night talk show host Stephen Colbert discussed the current state of America. During this conversation Colbert claimed that right now America is like a teenager whose body is changing. The Washington Post reports that Michelle added;

“We are a teenager,” she said, “And we come from a broken family, we’re a teenager, we’re a little unsettled, and having good parents, it’s tough, sometimes you spend the weekend with divorced dad and that seems fun until you get sick. That’s what America is going through, living with divorced dad.”

Although she never referenced Trump by name many were able to read between the lines. And now there are people who both agree and disagree with her comments and they’re not holding their tongues.

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA — Every relationship has its share of ups and downs, even for the Obamas. What matters is how you come through them, together. And most importantly, your business is your business. Don’t put it in the street.

In Michelle Obama’s book, Becoming, the former First Lady discusses the happenings of her life during the moments leading up to her husband’s presidency — as well as occurrences during his terms.

MICHELLE OBAMA, MISCARRIAGE, AND ‘BEING ALONE’

According to BBC, former First Lady Obama told ABC, “I felt like I failed because I didn’t know how common miscarriages were, because we don’t talk about them.”

“We sit in our own pain, thinking that somehow we’re broken… It’s important to talk to young mothers about the fact that miscarriages happen.”

Reportedly, something dawned on Michelle Obama. IVF — in vitro fertilization — was going to have to be the ultimate choice. The source says, at age 34, Mrs. Obama understood — first hand — that “the biological clock is real.” Furthermore, she realized her egg production was surely limited.

BBC reports Michelle telling ABC‘s Robin Roberts the following statement regarding the situation.

“I think it’s the worst thing that we do to each other as women, not share the truth about our bodies and how they work.”

Mrs. Obama’s book also mentions she had to administer IVF shots herself, due to her husband’s ultra-busy schedule. The Obamas actually experienced real trouble in their relationship once Barack joined the state legislature.

Unfortunately, as aforementioned, Michelle’s miscarriage happened nearly 20 years ago — leaving a lasting affect and effect on her for years to come.

Likewise, according to the source, Sasha and Malia were both IVF conceptions.

MRS. OBAMA’S MARRIAGE COUNSELING WORKED FOR THE BEST

As stated in the beginning of this article, it’s important that — when going through trials in your relationship — you keep it all to yourself. That’s why the public had no idea at all that Michelle Obama and her family were going through it at times.

There were times when communications weren’t the best within the household.

“Marriage counseling for us was one of those ways where we learned how to talk out our differences,” Mrs. Obama mentions.

“I know too many young couples who struggle and think that somehow there’s something wrong with them. And I want them to know that Michelle and Barack Obama, who have a phenomenal marriage and who love each other, we work on our marriage. And we get help with our marriage when we need it.”

However, she also talks about when she fell in love with her husband… experiencing a “blast of lust, gratitude, fulfillment, wonder.”
