Legendary jazz vocalist, Rachelle Ferrell, stopped in Detroit to perform at Chene Park, but she was not welcomed with “open arms.” Many fans took to social media to boo the performance, while others asked for prayers. Not only was her performance allegedly disappointing, it was alarming as well.

Fans Were Disappointed With Rachelle Ferrell’s Detroit Performance:

Many fans took to social media to share their disappointment with Rachelle Ferrell, who’s typically known for her impeccable voice and damn near acrobatic-like vocal ability. For a full house at Chene Park, on Wednesday night, Ferrell walked on stage looking noticeably thin with her purse on her shoulder. As her band played, Ferrell began to dance, but many fans wondered if her stage antics were intentional, or if they were the effects of substance abuse. While her voice is still beautiful, this new Rachelle Ferrell seemed unrecognizable and difficult to understand. No longer behind her piano, Ferrell sung standing up as she seemed to bring the funk out. She even replied that she knew that she was a “crazy h*e”.

It’s uncomfortable to watch legends struggle. Fans were upset because  Ferrell did not sing any of the songs that she is known for. It appeared as if she made up songs and this was not the Rachelle Ferrell that fans wanted to see. She looked unkempt and seemingly in the middle of either a mental breakdown, or high on drugs, or some other traumatic situation. While it’s hard to say it, many spectators thought the show was terrible. Sharing footage of the concert, fans asked for prayers for the jazz vocalist and sent prayers up, that she gets the help she needs and is able to perform again.

Following Rachelle Ferrell’s performance, here’s what some fans had to say:

“We’re witnessing the mental breakdown of a musical genius. Not funny AT ALL. Pray that her family/loved ones intervene. So sad.”

“Wow smh yes she was high. I don’t think she was drunk, high yes. This makes me think back when Miki Howard was so high at her concert, she embarrassed herself and fell out on stage.”

“She is an amazing talent..she clearly still has her chops…too bad something else is going on there..prayers she gets the help she needs.”

“I am looking at this and i cant believe that you all sat there and watched her perform like that and then to read the comments and see that this has happend more than once and she is still being booked ? I for one work to hard for my cash for me to pay for entertainment only to have that entertainer come out and act a fool or be high as a kite i would have turned that ticket office inside out…!”

“This was totally unacceptable! I was also wondering how she continues to be booked when she performs like this. It’s a shame and a slap in the face of those that took the time to come and see her.”

However, Twitter follower, Justin From-Finance, one self-described “absolute biggest fan,” believed the problem wasn’t with Ferrell, but with the energy of the audience:

“I’ve never experienced Detroit react in this way,” he stated in a Facebook Live video. “She is not dumb. She is not stupid. She felt the energy, she heard people boo her, and she left early, and I do not blame her. … I am absolutely disgusted, I am appalled, I am angry, I am hurt that Detroit has treated you that way, and I pray that you come back again.”

Because many Detroiters expressed their disappointment, Chene Park issued a statement on Rachelle Ferrell’s concert:

‘At Chene Park, we present authentic, live musical experiences. We select our artists and musical acts based on their bodies of work and artistry.

This summer, we have presented 45 unique concerts and events that have appealed to a wide variety of audiences. While we strive for 100 percent customer satisfaction and will continue to make that our goal, ultimately, it is the artists’ responsibility to deliver a professional, quality performance.

We thank our park patrons for an incredible season, and look forward to welcoming them back in 2019.’

Overall, fans called the show “wack,” a “hot mess,” and “a waste of two hours.”

We LOVE us some Rachelle Ferrell and the music game needs great artists like her. So hopefully, Ms. Ferrell will be able to redeem herself soon.
