This isn’t the first time a woman has accused Simmons of inappropriate behavior. In 2016 a woman named Jennifer Jarosik accused Simmons of raping her after contacting him for assistance with her documentary. During a meeting at Simmons’ home he allegedly physically and sexually assaulted her. And according to the Associated Press Jarosik wasn’t the only one to hurl those types of allegations against him.

Three women told the New York Times in a story published in December that Simmons had raped them in the 1980s or 1990s, including an executive who answered to Simmons at his record label, Def Jam Recordings.

Two other women, a model and a screenwriter, previously alleged that Simmons raped them in 1991.

Jarosik had told friends about the rape but did not go public or call authorities because she partly blamed herself for not having the strength to fight him off, the suit said.

Though Simmons has had to speak out against rape accusations in the past he has remained quiet about the Jane Doe case. But now he has finally released a statement as he prepares for his day in court.

Back In Trouble

In January there was an alleged incident involving Brown, his bodyguard and a friend at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Paris. An unidentified woman claims that all three men sexually assaulted her. They were arrested afterwards, then released once evidence failed to bring a conviction. CNN reports that Brown expressed his feelings about the situation on his Instagram page.

“I wanna make it perfectly clear ….. This is false and a whole lot of CAP!,” he wrote in the all-caps message. “… For my daughter and my family this is so disrespectful and is against my character and morals!!!!”

Brown’s French attorney Raphael Chiche cosigned his statements claiming his client “vigorously protests his innocence” with plans on bringing a suit against the accuser for slander. In the time since the allegations were made Brown and his legal team were set for a formal meeting to discuss the allegations on Tuesday. However things fell apart quickly, and now the accuser’s lawyer is speaking.

A Long Time Coming

Mystikal’s recent stint in jail is another in a long line of legal troubles he’s encountered during his career.  However, his most current charge was brought about in 2016 when an unidentified woman accused Mystikal of raping her after a concert in Shreveport, Louisiana. However, in a surprising twist instead of Mystikal running from the allegations he turned himself in to begin the process of clearing his name.

Complex reports that in February Mystikal (government name Michael Tyler) was released from jail, but the rape charges are still pending and he will have to appear in court on May 20. But one of Mystikal’s lawyers, Joel Pearce, isn’t worried about the outcome.

Mystikal pleaded not guilty to the charges in December 2017 and is expected to go on trial this spring. Mystikal’s other lawyer, Joel Pearce, said he is confident the rapper will walk away with a win.

“Based on all of the evidence we have, we strongly believe that an amicable resolution is not only possible but probable as an outcome in this case and that Michael Tyler will never be made to return to jail for a crime he didn’t commit,” Pearce said.

With all of his legal troubles hopefully coming to a close Mystikal took some time away from the court drama to entertain fans during Orlando’s Funk Fest. And they were more than happy to have him back.

New Accuser’s Claim Against Russell Simmons

In the lawsuit filed on Wednesday, the 37-year-old woman alleged that the music mogul invited her to his home for a meeting about a documentary project. Jarosik reportedly met Simmons in New York back in 2006, where they established a friendly rapport. She says that the two shared common interests including yoga, meditation, spirituality, and living a vegan lifestyle. Jarosik trusted and respected Simmons so that’s why she says took the meeting.

At some point after her arrival, Jarosik claims that Simmons asked her if she wanted to have sex with him, but she refused. But according to Jarosik, Simmons became aggressive and pushed her down on his bed. She then said that she hit her head and tried to fend him off, but Simmons “pounced on her while she was still in shock, in fear, and proceeded to rape her.”

Simmons Speaks Out & Shoots Down Accuser’s Claim

Like in every other charge lodged against him, Simmons adamantly denies Jarosik’s claims. He issued a statement, via his rep, to Rolling Stone on Wednesday, saying that he is eager to have his day in court and prove his innocence. Simmons owns his past mistakes, but he will not accept “responsibility for  what (he) has not done.”

“This allegation is absolutely untrue,” Simmons said in his statement. “I look forward to having my day in court – where, unlike the court of public opinion, I will have the ability to make use of fair processes that ensure that justice will be done and that the full truth will be known. In the meantime, please understand that I will not litigate this matter in the media. I am confident that when all is said and all is done, it will be as clear to others as it is to me that I did not do what this lawsuit accuses me of doing.”

Accuser’s Attorney Throws Jab At Simmons

Jarosik’s attorney told Billboard that the music industry has a long-standing and deep-rooted problem with misogyny and discrimination against women. He said that it’s time for the hip hop community to “face the music.”

“It’s not enough to apologize and step away from your business, convert a yoga studio to a nonprofit and still draw a salary and be worth $500 million and do nothing but apologize. As James Franco said, ‘if I need to make restitution I’ll do that,'” attorney Perry C. Wander said in the statement. “Mr. Simmons practices meditation, yoga and is a long time vegan practicing non violence against animals. So basically he treats animals better than women. The hypocrisy has to stop now.”

The Legal Claims Against Simmons

Both complaints were filed before the end of December, TMZ reported. One of the women who went to the police with her accusation is Sherri Hines, a member of the all-girl rap group Mercedes Ladies. Hines said that in 1983, she visited Simmons at his office under the guise of discussing a possible record deal with his label Def Jam. She was only 17 or 18 years old at the time. Hines told Megan Kelly on TODAY that he held her down and raped her on the couch in his office.

“The way I felt at the time was… I can’t believe this man just violated me like I was nothing,” Hines recalled.

The second woman who accused Simmons, has chosen to remain anonymous. She alleges that Simmons assaulted her at his home in Manhattan in 1991. The then-32-year-old reportedly told police that the two had gone out on a date. Upon returning to his place, Simmons allegedly made sexual advances towards her and tried to remove her dress. The woman rebuffed his advances and he then “forcibly raped her.”

Simmons has denied all of the allegations against him. He had gone on the offensive to publicly fight the claims against him using social media and even took a polygraph to disprove the claims of one of his accusers. On Dec. 14, Simmons launched a #NotMe movement, in response to the #MeToo movement being launched against him. He has since abandoned the defense tactic.

Russell Now Clappin’ Back Against Claims Again

Page Six reported that Simmons’ reps told them that he had a change of heart. Simmons said that “this is a time for women to speak.” But since these two latest charges have been filed, Simmons has made an about face and assumed his original posture.

“I vehemently deny all these allegations,” Simmons said in a statement issued by his representative, Eric Rose, as reported by USA TODAY. “These horrific accusations have shocked me to my core and all of my relations have been consensual. The current allegations range from the patently untrue to the frivolous and hurtful,” he added. “The presumption of ‘innocent until proven guilty’ must not be replaced by ‘Guilty by Accusation.'”

So we’ll have to let the police do their work. There is no statute of limitations for rape in New York, so the NYPD will have to investigate every last one of those complaints. This is gonna be a long year…

Russell Simmons is pulling out all the stops and has decided to “properly defend” himself against multiple allegations of rape. He took to Instagram on Thursday with a post announcing once again that he is innocent and intends to prove it. Simmons has launched a #NotMe hashtag which has set Twitter ablaze.

“Today, I begin to properly defend myself. I will prove without any doubt that I am innocent of all rape charges,” Simmons wrote. “I will focus on ‘The Original Sin’ (Keri Claussen), the claim that created this insane pile on of my #MeToo. Stay tuned! We’ll share information today… And tomorrow the case of Jenny Lumet.”

Now, some people are wondering if Simmons is making a huge mistake. As common procedure, the NYPD has opened an investigation into some of the charges against him. Twitter’s responses to the music mogul’s new campaign would suggest that he is committing suicide in the court of public opinion.

Citing the article in Variety about Simmons claims of innocence, Michaela Angela Davis responded to his #Not Me hashtag with a “not now.”

“Yo, #NotMe? Really? Not Now, son. Black women are the most vulnerable and violated,” Davis said.

Publicist, Kelly Cutrone, who claims that she fought off Simmons’ attempt to rape her in 1991, got wind of Simmons’ #NotMe campaign and told Page Six exactly what she thought of it.

Simmons Wants Lie Detector Tests For Himself & His Accusers

While there are many who believe that Simmons has a right to face his accusers and defend himself, the #NotMe hashtag, others believe it seems hostile and comes across as a slap in the face to those who have told their #MeToo stories. Against his attorneys’ advice, he has even started taking lie detector tests and has challenged his accusers to do the same. Simmons wants to hold his accusers accountable, but this strategy may very well backfire in his face. At the same time though, IF he is being wrongly accused, shouldn’t he have an equal right to fight back against the claims in however he sees fit? Just a thought, that’s all. McCrary went on to offer his own theory of why he thinks that former actor Dominick Brascia would go public on Haim’s behalf now.

McCrary went on to say that Sheen isn’t capable of raping anybody and that people like Brascia are just looking to use him for fame. And he could be right. Sheen has categorically denied taking advantage of Haim and his mother believes him. She has named another person as her son’s molester. But McCrary might know a child predator when he sees one. He told TMZ that he was a victim early in his career.

“I will say this though, I was inappropriately touched by a Hollywood executive, and I’m not going to tell on nobody,” McCrary said.

The TMZ reporter tried to get more details about McCrary’s alleged attack by asking if the molestation happened while he was working on the sitcom Family Matters. The former child actor said that he was keeping the details quiet because he’s not “thirsty” for attention.

“This happened when I was a young man,” McCrary continued. “I’m not going to say, but that’s what it is. See, I’m not thirsty, so I ain’t gotta tell my business because I’m not thirsty.”
