Salt-N-Pepa legend, Pepa, done had it up to here with Southwest Airlines, and after hearing her side of the story it’s understandable why. On Monday, July 15, 2024…Pepa took to social media to go off about the foul treatment she says she received aboard a Southwest Airlines flight that ended up getting her booted from her seat…or seats, that is. **Scroll down to view video of Pepa’s Southwest incident…

In the video below, Pep’ says she’d boarded a flight that she takes frequently from Las Vegas, NV to Nashville, TN, to get to a scheduled meeting. Even though this is a trip she books often, this go ’round was all kinds of jacked up before she could even get settled into her seat.

She’d bought two tickets for two seats on the flight so she could comfortably stretch her leg if needed, due to an injury she suffered from a 2018 accident. She also utilized booked the services of an airline greeter for wheelchair assistance, as the result of the knee injury. So far, no big deal there, right? She has a leg injury and made the necessary arrangements she needed by paying for the two seats, therefore she has a right to use said seats.

Well, apparently that’s where all hell broke lose between Pep’ and the airline’s staff, whom she says confronted her about this. According to Pepa, after boarding the plane a flight attendant approached her, telling her she was not allowed to have two seats — the two she paid for, mind you– because her leg was not in a cast. However, Pep was wearing a knee brace.

After Pepa had a discussion with the flight attendant, the employee then allowed her to keep the seats…ya’ know, the two that she paid for .

Pep’ says that soon after the flight-attendant-fiasco was over, a dude walked up to her and asked for her seat because he claimed he was heading to a funeral. When Pep’ asked the man to ‘swear’ that he truly was in need of her seat because he was going to a funeral, the man declined to do so. So that was a no-go for Pep’ as well, as she then explained to the man that she needed her two seats because of her leg injury.

While that convo’ was going on, other passengers reportedly began to chime, and argued over whether or not she should hand over her extra seat, or keep it because she actually paid for it. Nevertheless, the dude still ended up in the seat, although it’s unclear how that came about.

She also says the staff tried to get her to move to the emergency -ow seat, which she shut down. Why? Because whoever sits in the emergency row also assumes the responsibility of assisting with evacuation if there was an actual emergency during the flight. However, her boarding passes were marked as “Disabled,” so that request should have been out of question from the jump.

Following the the alleged jack move Southwest pulled with her extra seat, Pepa dialed up her assistant to discuss whether or not she should record the whole ordeal…but outta nowhere, that’s when she says she was kicked off the plane without any explanation.

After de-boarding the plane, Pep’ asked Southwest employees for an explanation about why they gave her the boot, and she was told the reason was because she was ‘recording’ on the plane, which made the staff ‘feel unsafe.’ Only prob’ with that excuse is that Pepa says at no point did she actually record anything while on the plane. It was only after de-boarding, that she’d picked up her phone to record the aftermath of what she’d just endured.

Southwest ended up reimbursing her $2500 for her two seats, but she says she lost out on the $500 she paid for the airline greeter, as well as the $300 she prepaid for the car service. She has since rebooked her flight.

After the melee (and likely after realizing they’d just kicked a legend off the plane, who has the power to blast them to her millions of social media followers), Southwest Airlines now claims that “initial reports from their teams indicate Pepa did not respond to crew member instructions, and denied her boarding to ensure the safety and comfort of other passengers,” according to TMZ.

Not sure what part of ‘I paid for two seats due to my leg injury, and therefore I will be using the two seats I paid for’ the airline’s staff did not quite comprehend 🤷🏽‍♂️, but Pepa is going to be exploring her legal options regarding this matter.

In a candid conversation on his “Class of ’88” podcast, Will confessed that he was low-key terrified during their outing in the late ’80s.

Picture this: a young Will Smith, with his heart racing and palms sweaty, took Sandra “Pepa” Denton out for a spin in a swanky white Mercedes convertible. He had been crushin’ on her for ages, and when fate finally brought them together in L.A., he seized the opportunity to impress her.

The plan was simple, yet romantic – a drive along Mulholland Drive to soak in the beautiful sunset, and show her the glitz and glamour of Hollywood Hills. But here’s the kicker: Smith admitted that he was actually scared outta his mind the entire time! He confessed, “I always faked like I had game. I didn’t really have game. I was always in this full-on, ‘trying’ to give the wildest flavor…”.

Deep down, he didn’t think he stood a chance with Pep’, and his swag was just a front. Talk about vulnerability! But hey, sometimes nerves make us do crazy things, right?

Despite his fear, Smith managed to create some unforgettable moments. He generously gave $100 to a homeless person they encountered during their date, which Pepa admitted left a lasting impression on her. They even made a stop at the iconic Hollywood sign. However, Smith didn’t hold back when he said, “My concern was that I was gon’ get killed” during that particular moment. That’s when Pepa’s rap partner, Salt, comically chimed in and said, “That was a legit concern.” 😆 Wow, talk about a rollercoaster of emotions!

Unfortunately, their romance eventually fizzled out, but they remained good friends. As y’all know, Smith went on to marry and remain marry to Jada Pinkett-Smith (despite how rocky and controversial their marriage has become), while Pepa had a brief marriage to Naughty By Nature rapper, Treach. Although Pep’s and Will’s quick link-up may have been ‘a love story without a Hollywood ending,’ it’s undoubtedly a memorable chapter in both their lives.

Salt N’ Pepa’s, Cheryl “Salt” James, was married to the father of her two children, Gavin Wray, for eighteen years (2000 – 2018), and they dated for 10 years prior. Interestingly, Gavin’s character as a man attracted Salt to him far before they’d ever met…and it had everything to do with the heroic thing he’d done for their mutual friend, Sandy “Pepa” Denton.

In Pepa’s memoir, Let’s Talk About Pep,’ she recalled an extremely scary incident when Gavin put his own life in jeopardy, so she and her baby could escape a murderer who’d come THIS close to doing all of them in! It happened around the time of their 1990 “Let’s Talk About Sex” fame and Pepa’s counting her blessings to this day. Below are excerpts of Pep’ breaking down that incident…

Pepa stopped to holla at Gavin…

Pepa: “I saw [Salt’s then-husband] Gavin near this park and I pulled over to talk to him. … That week, this neighborhood guy had just gotten out of jail, and he went on a killing spree. He killed about ten people in a grocery store and was on the run.”

Pepa couldn’t believe that as she was talking to Gavin (pictured above with then-wife, Salt), they came face to face with the ‘killer’ and her baby, Tyran, was in danger:

“The cops were looking for him. Helicopters were swirling around, and this murderer came up to Me and tried to get into my car. ‘No,no!’ I started screaming. “Let me get my baby out, let me get my baby!’

I didn’t care about the car, I wasn’t going to let him drive off with my baby.”

Unfortunately, the murderer didn’t listen to Pep’s plea:

“He knocked me to the ground. This guy was big and buff… I was crying and screaming and trying to pull on this giant man to stop him from taking my car with my baby in it.”

“Gavin started cursing this guy out. ‘You pu$$y! You sucker-a$$ pu$$y! Hey punk!’ Gavin was trying anything to get this man to stop what he was doing, and it was working. His pride couldn’t take Gavin calling him a pu$$y, and it was making him mad and Gavin kept breaking on him. He finally started going after Gavin.

‘Pep, go, go!’ Gavin screamed as soon as the man moved away from the car. I immediately jumped in, but I didn’t want to pull off because I just knew this guy was going to kill Gavin.

The man stopped going after Gavin when he realized what was happening. But it was too late. ‘Pep, go!’ Gavin said.”

Then The Situation Grew Even More Dangerous

Pepa did as Gavin told her to. But here’s how Gavin narrowly escaped death afterwards:

“I jumped in my car and pulled off. Gavin isn’t a fighter. He was kind of skinny and he wasn’t really a street dude. But he was quick thinking and saved my baby’s life. I saw Gavin take off running. He might fake you out, but he never punks out.

The murderer guy must have sensed that if he chased Gavin and beat him to death, there was a good possibility that he would get caught. So he decided to run in the other direction. They caught him a week later. But I will never forget Gavin for that, and I couldn’t thank him enough.”

After that terrifying ordeal, Pep’ and Gavin’s friendship grew tighter, and she respected him so much, that she decided to hook him up with her friend, Salt:

“I had told Cheryl (Salt) all kinds of stories about him before they even met, and by the time they did meet, he was already a hero in her mind. I knew they would hit it off.”

And the rest is history!

Sandra “Pepa” Denton – one half of Salt N’ Pepa – has admittedly been through a lot in her 55 years. She’s had several not-so-great (and sometimes outright horrific) past relationships. She’s also made mistakes she’s not proud of. Nevertheless, they’ve only made her that much stronger, which is exactly what she apparently had to be when she had her first-born son.

In 1990, Pepa gave birth to her now 31-year-old son/”Growing Up Hip Hop” cast-mate, Tyran Moore, with rapper, Tyran “Tah Tah” Moore (who also goes by the name Broderick Riddick, as reported by Daily News. Tah Tah was once reportedly associated with Murder Inc. Records.

Tah Tah reportedly had a few brushes with the law, and 50 Cent once publicly alleged, in one of his songs, that he possibly could have been one of three possible suspects who “shot” him nine times in 2000 (that was never proven, nor were there any official charges filed). However, years before that drama, Pepa was madly in love with the father of her son and she wrote all about it in her book, Let’s Talk About Pep. Unfortunately, their relationship didn’t last…but thankfully, their son is happy and healthy these days.

A few years ago, Pepa did an interview with Global Grind, where she talked about Will “Fresh Prince” Smith and the time they used to spend together in the late 1980’s, during the height of Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince’ rap success. Although she says she felt Will’s vibes toward her back then, she turned the brotha down:

Pepa: “I thought Will was really cute and we would hang out a lot on the road. He liked to take care of me and never let me spend a dime. He was that kind of guy, real generous. I remember when they won their first award, he asked me to go out with him afterward. He was so excited. We were walking along the street getting ready to grab something to eat, and he just gave this homeless guy $100 dollars…I sometimes kick myself when I think about what could have been. In her interview, Pepa expressed regret for turning Will down, because it seems she later realized the type of guys she was really attracted to at that time, were not the best ones for her. Case in point, was the man Pepa said she was, in fact, diggin’ at that time- MC Hammer’s BROTHER! According to Pep,’ Hammer’s brother was a “thug,” but she loved that about him:

“I liked people like Louis Burrell (MC Hammer’s brother). He was rough, he was street and he didn’t pull any punches. He would walk around with a cane and pimp hat. He always referred to women as b**ches.” Even with all that, I liked him.”

So Many Questions:

1. First of all, Pepa has always been beautiful, but who would’ve thought that Will Smith -the “Parents Just Don’t Understand” rapper- would’ve been bold enough to step to a ’round-the-way chick, like Pep?’ Their personalities seem totally opposite.

2. Next question: Who knew Hammer had a brother…and a ‘thuggish bro’ at that (according to Pepa’s description of him)?
