In case y’all haven’t heard by now, Lionel Richie was just added as a new judge for the upcoming season of American Idol. During the taping of the first auditions on October 4th, US Weekly approached him with questions about his 19 year old model daughter, Sofia Richie’s, love life.

As we’ve previously reported, L. Richie has been catching a lotta flack because Sofia is now dating the very controversial reality TV star, Scott Disick. Scott is 34 years old and known as the wild partying, excessive alcohol drinking, ex-husband/babies’ daddy of Kourtney Kardashian, from the Keeping Up With The Kardashians reality TV show.

Richie Is “Scared To Death”

Lionel Richie didn’t try the ‘it’s all good’ front when asked about his 19 year old daughter dating a cat 15 years older than her. In fact, he admitted he’s utterly terrified about their relationship and we don’t blame him one bit. See what else he said here:

“Have I been in shock?! I’m the dad, come on,” the “Hello” singer exclusively told Us at the American Idol auditions in New York City on Wednesday, October 4. … When asked if he was happy for the new couple, the multi-Grammy winner quipped, “I’m scared to death, are you kidding me?”

What Can Lionel Richie Do About It?

Up until now, L. Richie has been quiet on the backlash surrounding his daughter. Technically speaking though, Sofia Richie is an adult, a very young teen-adult, but still legally old enough to make her own decisions. So there’s not much her pops can do about it.

On the flip side, Lionel Richie’s a good dude. Why? Because some dads would have found a way to throw a curb ball in their young daughter’s seemingly inevitable relationship disaster, especially if they had with L. Richie’s millions. For example, Lionel Richie’s ‘curb ball-plan’ could be really simple: threaten to cut off Sofia’s fortune inheritance if she doesn’t kick Disick to the curb ASAP…that’ll probably get her mind right. LOL, I joke I joke, I kid, I kid!

Seriously though, it’s sometimes tough watching our children run head-first into life’s brick walls that either we, or someone we know, has already ran full steam ahead into as youngins. But the one thing we can hope for, is that we’ve done the best job we can at raising them, so that even when they fall, they’ll have the tools needed to rebuild themselves and continue to fly.
