The Legal Claims Against Simmons

Both complaints were filed before the end of December, TMZ reported. One of the women who went to the police with her accusation is Sherri Hines, a member of the all-girl rap group Mercedes Ladies. Hines said that in 1983, she visited Simmons at his office under the guise of discussing a possible record deal with his label Def Jam. She was only 17 or 18 years old at the time. Hines told Megan Kelly on TODAY that he held her down and raped her on the couch in his office.

“The way I felt at the time was… I can’t believe this man just violated me like I was nothing,” Hines recalled.

The second woman who accused Simmons, has chosen to remain anonymous. She alleges that Simmons assaulted her at his home in Manhattan in 1991. The then-32-year-old reportedly told police that the two had gone out on a date. Upon returning to his place, Simmons allegedly made sexual advances towards her and tried to remove her dress. The woman rebuffed his advances and he then “forcibly raped her.”

Simmons has denied all of the allegations against him. He had gone on the offensive to publicly fight the claims against him using social media and even took a polygraph to disprove the claims of one of his accusers. On Dec. 14, Simmons launched a #NotMe movement, in response to the #MeToo movement being launched against him. He has since abandoned the defense tactic.

Russell Now Clappin’ Back Against Claims Again

Page Six reported that Simmons’ reps told them that he had a change of heart. Simmons said that “this is a time for women to speak.” But since these two latest charges have been filed, Simmons has made an about face and assumed his original posture.

“I vehemently deny all these allegations,” Simmons said in a statement issued by his representative, Eric Rose, as reported by USA TODAY. “These horrific accusations have shocked me to my core and all of my relations have been consensual. The current allegations range from the patently untrue to the frivolous and hurtful,” he added. “The presumption of ‘innocent until proven guilty’ must not be replaced by ‘Guilty by Accusation.'”

So we’ll have to let the police do their work. There is no statute of limitations for rape in New York, so the NYPD will have to investigate every last one of those complaints. This is gonna be a long year…

Haskell alleges that while employed by Sports 1 Marketing in California where Moon co-founder and president, her boss made “unwanted and unsolicited sexual advances towards her.” The suit alleges that since Moon hired her in July 2017, he forced her to “submit to a variety of unnerving sexual and perverse controlling arrangements, including sleeping in the same bed with him on all business trips, providing him unfettered access to the bathroom every time she showered, wearing skimpy lingerie while in the obligatory single room, obtaining prior approval for her wardrobe, and being subjected to continuous unwanted and unsolicited sexual advances.”

According to Paul Silvi of Seattle’s KING 5 TV, Moon denies all of the charges against him, but the lawsuit documents some disturbing allegations that he must now disprove. Haskell alleged that Moon drugged her during a business trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. She said that he then stripped her of her swimsuit while on the beach. Haskell accused Moon of groping her and threatening to fire her in an email where he vowed to “find someone who doesn’t have inhibitions about the job.”

The Washington Post reported that the 32-year-old complained about Moon’s harassment, which included sharing a hotel and bed with him when traveling, but was demoted by the Irvine, Calif. firm in October. Haskell never reported the alleged sexual assaults to police. Miami-based attorney Diana L. Fitzgerald attempted to explain why her client chose to remain silent.

“I think she was scared,” Fitzgerald told The Post. “She was expecting to further her career in the sports marketing industry. She had no idea that her job duties were going to involve that kind of perverse protocol.”

In spite of a decorated career in the NFL and recognition as a staunch humanitarian, less-than-stellar incidents from Moon’s past are being brought back into the spotlight. Moon was sued by a Minnesota Vikings cheerleader in May 1995 for sexual harassment where he reportedly propositioned her for sex in exchange for money. The case was quickly settled out of court.

That same summer, his then-wife Felicia told police that Moon had slapped and choked her. A jury found him not-guilty after she testified that she provoked the altercation. The couple divorced in 2001. He has been married to Mandy Ritter since 2005.

McCrary went on to offer his own theory of why he thinks that former actor Dominick Brascia would go public on Haim’s behalf now.

“People who are thirsty are always looking for a good drink and from what I know, Charlie Sheen will quench your thirst. Drink that,” he continued.

McCrary went on to say that Sheen isn’t capable of raping anybody and that people like Brascia are just looking to use him for fame. And he could be right. Sheen has categorically denied taking advantage of Haim and his mother believes him. She has named another person as her son’s molester. But McCrary might know a child predator when he sees one. He told TMZ that he was a victim early in his career.

“I will say this though, I was inappropriately touched by a Hollywood executive, and I’m not going to tell on nobody,” McCrary said.

The TMZ reporter tried to get more details about McCrary’s alleged attack by asking if the molestation happened while he was working on the sitcom Family Matters. The former child actor said that he was keeping the details quiet because he’s not “thirsty” for attention.

“This happened when I was a young man,” McCrary continued. “I’m not going to say, but that’s what it is. See, I’m not thirsty, so I ain’t gotta tell my business because I’m not thirsty.”

Upon his exit, the former NFL player and fitness buff confirmed the filing and told the reporter why he did it.

“Because, you know, people have to be held accountable,” Crews said.

When asked if he also planned to file a civil suit against his attacker, Crews made it clear that he would. He said that his attorneys will help him decide how much money he should demand in the lawsuit.

Who Attacked Crews?

The reporter then tried to get Crews to do something that, thus far, no one has been able to do–get Crews to name his attacker. But the actor hopped into his SUV without offering an answer. Reports revealed last week said that the culprit was Adam Venit. He heads up the motion picture group at William Morris Endeavor (WME). Crews is represented by the agency. According to TMZ sources, the actor named Venit in his formal complaint.

Deadline reported that Venit has been on administrative leave ever since news of the allegations broke. He is still employed by the agency. Venit’s client list includes big-name talents including Adam Sandler, Sylvester Stallone, Emma Stone, Brett Radner, and Dustin Hoffman. Ironically, Radner and Hoffman are now faces sexual harassment accusations of their own.

What Made Crews Come Forward?

This entire series of revelations started when Crews tweeted his #MeToo story referencing the assault that he said took place at an industry function last year. The “high level Hollywood executive came over 2 me and groped my privates,” Crews wrote. He said that his wife witnessed the assault.

Crews resisted the urge to beat the man up because he immediately realized that a big, strong, 240-pound Black man who stomped out a “Hollywood Honcho” probably wouldn’t fare well legally or professionally. Crews did talk to everybody he knew that worked with his attacker about what happened the next day. But he didn’t know what else to do until now.

Taking Action

Crews said that coupled with the Harvey Weinstein sexual assault scandal, his experience gave him PTSD. He had to speak out. Many have commended him for his brave stance which could have serious implications for his career. On the other hand, there are those who still believe that men don’t get harassed. Crews should just keep quiet, keep working, and take the money and run.

Retaliation Was Common

Powell worked for Allied for four years from 2012-2016. She says that she was subjected to a sexually-charged environment where women who did not submit to participation would be retaliated against. Powell herself was given more difficult security assignments and denied federally-mandated rest and meal breaks. She had been reduced to urinating in a cup.

Sex Was Livestreamed

The 32-year-old Black woman said that the never-ending torment was “harrowing.” In court documents, Powell explained how she was “repeatedly forced to stand by as her supervisors watched her colleagues have sex in security booths via closed circuit television cameras.” They would also watch videos of female security guards performing oral sex on male supervisors.” Often the videos were live streamed.

A Culture Of Abuse

Powell wasn’t the only woman who experienced such vile treatment as an Allied employee. At least one other Black woman has come forward and has echoed Powell’s claims. Allied’s White supervisors at JFK were well-aware of the abuses and did nothing to help women who complained. They reportedly used the N-word in their everyday conversations adding more hostility to the work environment. When both women made formal reports of the abuses they claimed to suffer, they were fired.

Though the Port Authority of New York granted Allied Universal Security Services the contract, they are not named in the lawsuit. Attorneys representing the alleged victims, however, do believe that they should take some responsibility in the matter. The New York Daily News reported that the matter has been referred to their inspector general.

No Response From Allied

In the meantime, Allied has yet to issue an official response to the federal suit–and they don’t intend to, either.

“We have just received the lawsuit and are reviewing it,” Allied offered in a statement. “…per policy we do not comment publicly on pending litigation.”

As the saga continues to unfold with mounting allegations of sexual harassment and sexual assault against Harvey Weinstein, attention is being turned towards the fate of the company he helped build now that he has been ousted. TMZ reported that Jay Z wants a bigger piece of the pie. The rapper and mogul has partnered with a group of investors to buy the fallen Hollywood heavyweight’s 23 percent stake in the Weinstein Company (TWC).

Jay Z currently has a first-look deal with TWC where he teamed up with Weinstein to produce the six-part Starz and Netflix series Time: The Kalief Browder Story. A series on Trayvon Martin, an unarmed teen who was murdered by George Zimmerman, is set to begin production soon. The yet-to-be-identified members of the investment group reportedly include a billionaire as well as a very well-known movie producer. Closing this deal would be a game changer in television and film. Jay Z would have the opportunity to control who gets to tell our stories and how our stories are told.

Harvey and his brother Bob, who founded Academy Award-winning Miramax Films in 1979, launched TWC in October 2005. The company produces and distributes both film and television projects which include blockbusters like Django Unchained, Lee Daniels’ The Butler, and the “Project Runway” television franchise. Harvey’s departure leaves a huge void that TWC needs to fill quickly.

On Thursday morning, Harvey Weinstein broke his silence saying that he and his wife have separated. He is checking into a sex rehab facility in Arizona for treatment. But more trouble looms for the entertainment mogul as Fox Business reported that the U.S. Justice Department has ordered the FBI to launch an investigation into Weinstein which could mean even more trouble for TWC.

“…We discussed the possibility of a separation and I encouraged her to do what was in her heart. In the end, she made the decision to separate,” Weinstein said in a statement.

They say that success is where opportunity meets preparation. Assuming that’s true, Jay Z is standing at the intersection. If he pulls this off, the Hollywood game will never be the same. Talk about a takeover.
