NBA legend, Shaquille O’Neal, and ex-wife/BBW creator, Shaunie O’Neal, are thanking the Higher Power for the strides their 19 year old son, Shareef, is now making on his road to recovery.

As we previously reported, in September 2018 the O’Neal family was rocked when Shareef- who was one of the highest ranked high school basketball players- found out he had a serious heart condition. He was just about to began his college b-ball career at UCLA, but that all came to a screeching heart when doctors informed the family that he needed immediate heart surgery.

On the day of the surgery, in December 2018, Shaunie was a nervous wreck for their baby, understandably so, and she posted this photo and message online:

“This morning was by far my toughest moment being a Mom. If only I could take his place today. Could I at least go with him in that operating room and hold his hand. Separating from him as he was wheeled off to surgery was heartbreaking. THATS MY BABY! I don’t care how old, how big, how grown my kids get I still want to protect them. I had no control over any of this. But there is a God, I trust and believe He is in there with my baby right now and has complete control. #prayforreef 🙏🏽❤️ @shareefoneal #mybaby”
