Lionel Richie’s youngest daughter has just announced her pregnancy with her new rich hubby. The Richie fam,’ known for their diverse talent, seems to have another reason to celebrate.

Although Lionel Richie is renowned for his iconic music career, his daughter has managed to carve her own path in the entertainment game, as a sought-after model. Despite leading a relatively low-key life, the news of her pregnancy has caused a slight stir among her fans and media alike.

But who exactly is this lucky dad-to-be? Well, he happens to come from a pretty interesting background himself. Sofia’s husband, Elliot Grainge – whom she married in April 2023 –  is the founder and CEO of 10K Projects. This independent record label has made waves in the music industry, signing some of popular names in today’s hip hop game, such as Tekashi 6ix9ine, Trippie Redd, and Iann Dior.

Interestingly, Elliot’s pops, Lucian, heads up Universal Music Group. Lucian has played a significant role in shaping the music industry as we know it today as well.

Although Sofia Richie has gained fame through her work in the fashion industry, her private life has always garnered considerable attention as well. Her previous high-profile relationship with reality TV star, Scott Disick (a.k.a. Cortney Kardashian’s ex-husband) made headlines, even sparking Lionel Richie to publicly throw a lil’ shade at it when he said he was concerned about her dating such a controversial older cat, like Scott, at that time. In an interview with Complex Magazine, Sofia got pissed off when recalling the many times she’s experienced racism in the fashion world and other social settings from people who didn’t realize that she is half African American:

“I’m very light, so some people don’t really know that I’m black. I’ve been in situations where people will say something kind of racist and I’ll step in and they’ll be like, ‘Oh, well, you’re light,’” [Sofia] says, her eyes flashing. “That still doesn’t cut it, buddy. It’s 2016—you better get your shit together before you get slapped out here.”

Fast forward to today though, and Lionel Richie seems to be getting even more frantic at the idea that it’s now months later and Scott Disick -father of four Kardashian kids- is still hangin’ tight with his little girl. Lionel Richie on Sofia’s and Disick’s relationship: “It’s just a phase and I’m going to stand real still in the corner, get me a good drink and not make too much noise. … Now I know what my parents meant when I came through the door with my Afro and my girlfriend and said ‘Dad, I’m in love.’ … My daughter is getting me back for my Afro days! She’s 19. When you’re 19 you know everything.”

However, Lionel did find one good thing to say about Disick. Apparently he has intentionally kept his distance from Scott Disick, but he said that in the few times he met him, he seemed like a ‘nice’ dude, for whatever that’s worth.

Richie Tried To Drop Hints To Daughter?

Scrolling through Sofia’s Instagram, we did find one gem in which Lionel Richie appeared to try to give his daughter a hint to let go of Scott before it’s too late. Maybe, if Sofia’s boyfriend were even remotely close to her age- like 19 or 21- it wouldn’t feel as creepy as it does now to see her sexy dancing to her dad’s music. Why? Because it would have made it easier to brush it off and say ‘They’re just two young kids doing what young people do.’ However, being that Scott is old enough to be Sofia’s uncle, or at worst case scenario, her teen parent (if he would have had a kid at 15), it makes it look like bad judgement on Scott’s part. The bright side is at least it’s cool that Sofia appreciates her Pop’s legendary music…I suppose.

How Lionel Richie Feels About Daughter’s Old Boyfriend

As we previously reported, Lionel Richie recently revealed that he was -and I quote- “terrified” that Sofia was dating a much older, alcohol-rehabilitated, Kardashian ex-husband and parent of two young kids, Scott Disick. In case y’all haven’t heard by now, Lionel Richie was just added as a new judge for the upcoming season of American Idol. During the taping of the first auditions on October 4th, US Weekly approached him with questions about his 19 year old model daughter, Sofia Richie’s, love life.

As we’ve previously reported, L. Richie has been catching a lotta flack because Sofia is now dating the very controversial reality TV star, Scott Disick. Scott is 34 years old and known as the wild partying, excessive alcohol drinking, ex-husband/babies’ daddy of Kourtney Kardashian, from the Keeping Up With The Kardashians reality TV show.

Richie Is “Scared To Death”

Lionel Richie didn’t try the ‘it’s all good’ front when asked about his 19 year old daughter dating a cat 15 years older than her. In fact, he admitted he’s utterly terrified about their relationship and we don’t blame him one bit. See what else he said here:

“Have I been in shock?! I’m the dad, come on,” the “Hello” singer exclusively told Us at the American Idol auditions in New York City on Wednesday, October 4. … When asked if he was happy for the new couple, the multi-Grammy winner quipped, “I’m scared to death, are you kidding me?”

What Can Lionel Richie Do About It?

Up until now, L. Richie has been quiet on the backlash surrounding his daughter. Technically speaking though, Sofia Richie is an adult, a very young teen-adult, but still legally old enough to make her own decisions. So there’s not much her pops can do about it.

On the flip side, Lionel Richie’s a good dude. Why? Because some dads would have found a way to throw a curb ball in their young daughter’s seemingly inevitable relationship disaster, especially if they had with L. Richie’s millions. For example, Lionel Richie’s ‘curb ball-plan’ could be really simple: threaten to cut off Sofia’s fortune inheritance if she doesn’t kick Disick to the curb ASAP…that’ll probably get her mind right. LOL, I joke I joke, I kid, I kid!

Seriously though, it’s sometimes tough watching our children run head-first into life’s brick walls that either we, or someone we know, has already ran full steam ahead into as youngins. But the one thing we can hope for, is that we’ve done the best job we can at raising them, so that even when they fall, they’ll have the tools needed to rebuild themselves and continue to fly.

Scott was also seen on the show expressing how much he wanted Kourtney back (which wasn’t that long ago) and in May (2017) it was reported that he went into a downward spiral after he supposedly found out Kourtney was dating someone else. It was also reported by TMZ, that Kourtney recently refused to allow him around their two kids because his drinking leads him to destructive behaviors.

Because soon after the news broke about that flirtatious yacht ride between Sofia and Scott, three things happened. First, Sofia tried to do a lil’ damage control on social media with this statement:

Then came Sofia’s reveal that her dad tracks her phone on the regular. She tweeted this message:

Then there was the Face-Time phone call with her Pops, Lionel, who made sure he knew what his daughter was up to at all times. As she yet again was spotted with Scott and other friends in France, their body contact was much more subdued, while she talked to her Pops, who could see everything in the background.

Richie has admitted in the past, that he’s a cool dad, who has had to do very little disciplining of his kids throughout the years. There are several reasons why he may not be loving him: For one, Sofia Richie’s ‘friend’ is 34 years old, so obviously dude’s age is an issue.
