Wait a Minute! Who Dis-R-E-S-P-E-C-T-ed Aretha?!!

Aretha don’t play that! The Queen of Soul was disrespected recently at a Johnny Rockets restaurant by a young waiter who didn’t even know who she was. You know ReRe was about to let that youngster have it!

Via NY Daily News:

“A Canadian restaurant worker landed in hot water after she failed to show legendary singer Aretha Franklin any r-e-s-p-e-c-t.

The Queen of Soul described what led to her beef with a waitress at a Johnny Rockets restaurant in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Franklin, after performing at a concert in nearby Lewiston, N.Y., couldn’t wait to chow down at Johnny Rockets, one of her favorite spots to eat on the road.

She ordered her usual — a hamburger and cherry Coke to go. Then she sat down at one of the restaurant’s many empty tables and waited for the food. Out of nowhere, a worker in her mid-30s showed up and told Franklin, “You can’t sit there.” “I said, ‘Excuse me, what do you mean I can’t sit here?” recalled Franklin, who was with her nephew at the time.The worker told Franklin the seating area is only for people who are eating in. Franklin stayed calm. “I said, ‘Ok, I’ll have it here,” she recalled.

The 72-year-old singing sensation said she was shocked by the worker’s reply: “You can’t have it here because we’ve already rang you up as a takeout customer.”What came next was even more insulting, Franklin said.The worker ordered her to get up and stand outside the perimeter of the eatery, which was in a food court. Franklin wasn’t having it.“I got up and walked out,” she said. “I said, ‘You should eat it yourself and you pay for it.'”

“My nephew mentioned to her who I was,” Franklin added, “and she said she didn’t care who I was.” The experience left Franklin with a terrible taste in her mouth. Her burger-slinging antagonist was “so rude and nasty,” Franklin said. “She’s a public servant and she shouldn’t speak that way to anybody, celebrities or non-celebrities,” Franklin said.

A Johnny Rockets spokeswoman told the Associated Press the franchise owner is sorry for the actions of “a new and very young employee.” She added that the owner has spoken with the employee and has clarified his takeout policies.”

If that restaurant doesn’t get their employees in check real quick, Johnny Rockets will be a “Chain of Fools” before you know it…LOL. How are they gonna allow that type of disrespect to the “Queen”?!! Do you think the waiter should have been giving walking papers?

Aretha Franklin Dropping New September 2014 Album

In case y’all haven’t heard, the Queen of Soul is about to drop a brand new album and show these youngins how it’s really done! She reunited with Clive Davis for this new project and he’s giving all the details here:

“Aretha Franklin is preparing a new album for release before the end of the month with Clive Davis overseeing production, there’s great anticipation over what the legendary soul singer has put together with the help of Clive Davis’ oversight.

This new project will be Franklin’s 39th studio release in 58 years, and according to Davis the icon is “in absolutely peak form.” It also marks Franklin’s reunion with Davis and his Arista Records, following two releases apart.

“Aretha has always held a very special place in my heart. She’s universally recognized to be the greatest singer of all time,” Davis told Billboard. “Although we took a recording break, our strong friendship always continued. And it was a particular thrill when we announced two years ago that we would be making another album together.

“I had this concept of having the Queen of Soul inimitably interpret Diva classics by Dinah Washington, Etta James, Gladys Knight, Gloria Gaynor, Barbara Streisand, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, Adele, among others. And has she done that. Aretha’s new album is purely and simply sensational. She’s on fire and vocally in absolutely peak form. What a thrill to see this peerless artist still showing the way, still sending shivers up your spine, still demonstrating that all contemporary music needs right now is the voice. What a voice.”

The album’s name has not yet been announced and it’s due for release Sept. 30. Will you be getting it?

The Great Debate: Angela Bofill vs. Phyllis Hyman

Ok, so the great debate this time is between Angela Bofill vs. Phyllis Hyman. There was always talk in the industry that there was some kind of friction between Phyllis Hyman and Angela Bofill. I once heard someone from Angela’s camp say that Phyllis started it…LOL. Apparently our girl Phyllis didn’t like that people were comparing Angela (the newcomer) to her. People would say that there’s a new singer on the scene and she has a deep alto voice like Phyllis and she’s tall and gorgeous just like Phyllis. Phyllis on the other hand, wasn’t trying to hear that, so she wasn’t too accepting of Angela in the beginning. From what I understand she would be cordial to her, but she definitely made it known that she wasn’t going to necessarily be chummy chummy with her…LOL. That’s one thing I always loved about Phyllis, she never hid who she was…you either loved her, or you didn’t.

Now Angela was a sweetheart about the situation and never tried to go at it with Phyllis, she was always nice to her.

In terms of the comparison between the two, their ballads are some of the best ballads ever created. Angela’s “I Try” is a true classic. She didn’t try to over-sing the song, or compete with the music, she just set in the track and let the music guide her. The lyrics Angela wrote for her songs as a whole all felt like perfect matches with her music. Phyllis’ music was timeless to me. “Living All Alone” was one of my favorite songs by her and I think her style of singing was totally different from Angela’s.

I’m not going to lie, when I look at them, from a physical standpoint, I see similarities in terms of them both being beautiful women, but other than that, that’s it. As far as artists, these two are very different to me. If I had to choose between these two phenomenal artists I think I would go with Phyllis Hyman for her vocal skills and her delivery of the songs; and Angela Bofill for her ability to not just create a song, but to create a mood through a combination of her writing and delivery. So in other words, I’m saying that it’s a draw…I can’t choose just one because in my opinion they both contributed something very different to soul music. Which one would you choose?
