“It was in the Eighties. And I don’t hold a grudge against Tina, she’s a great artist and asset to our industry. Having said that, there was no violence on my part, nor have I ever owned or carried a weapon,” Randy added.

He then hinted that something freaky was going on between the two ladies at that time:

RJ: “I went to Tina’s house to see my girlfriend. I guess I caught them off guard. Hmmm…Next question.”

Tina’s Former Assistant Told All About The Reported Shooting

In a 1993 interview, as well as in his 1998 book, The Real T: My 22 Years with Tina Turner, Tina’s former assistant, Eddy Hampton Armon, gave further details about Tina’s reported ‘Wild, wild, west’ moment:

“Randy had fallen out with his mistress, Bernadette Roby Swann, and she’d fled to Tina’s house,” Eddy recalled. I opened the door to Bernadette and she sobbed: ‘I can’t take anymore. Randy’s threatening me.'”

Eddy says Tina took Bernadette into her bedroom to console her, telling Bernadette that she’s “got yourself an Ike [Turner],” referring to Randy Jackson, and that she “better get rid of him.”

According to Eddy, Randy eventually climbed over Tina Turner’s front gate and threw a flowerpot through her window. That’s when he says Tina went for her rifle, telling Randy to ‘Freeze or I’ll blow your brains out.’:

“She keeps two loaded weapons, a .38 revolver and a rifle, says Eddy. She grabbed the rifle, pointed it at the ceiling and fired a warning shot.

Everybody was stunned, but it didn’t stop Randy. He fell to his knees and begged his girlfriend to go with him.”

Eddy said Randy then “charged straight at Tina like raging bull,” and Tina calmly let off a second warning shot right next to Randy’s head to scare him. Legend has it that Randy was in fact scared by that point, and began fleeing through the window he’d previously climbed through…while simultaneously catching a bullet in his a$$, courtesy of Tina Turner.

Welp, I guess Tina wasn’t about to have another Ike-and-Tina-moment in her life. Sounds like Randy learned that lesson the hard way.

Meet Sugar Ray Leonard’s Daughter

Okay, now back to his beautiful daughter. Her name is Camille Leonard and Sugar Ray Leonard couldn’t be more proud of her. She attended LMU (Loyola Marymount University) in Los Angeles. From the looks of it, she spends her spare time spending some quality time her her parents.

As well as being on her grind, promoting her fragrance line, Born Indigo. In one online post, she shared the following photo of herself and her Pops at her Born Indigo promotional event, captioning it with:

However, what we don’t think of when we see Sugar Ray, is a man who was once violated and sexually abused when he was a young boxer training to become the greatest. The timing may sound a tad bit odd, but when you read his story, you’ll understand the true pain and inner conflict that this man had to endure. We applaud him for his brutal honesty.

Sugar Ray Details His Sexual Assault

Sugar Ray Leonard says he was sexually abused by his boxing coach starting at the age of 15. He released his autobiography, “The Big Fight: My Life In and Out of the Ring,” in 2011, detailing what exactly happened to him.

He first did an extensive interview with The New York Times, stating that his Olympic boxing coach forced him to engage in sexual acts with him, as well as strange acts with a fellow teen boxer at that time:

Via Big Think: According to the summary in the New York Times, Leonard first became suspicious when the coach had him and another fighter take a bath together and watched them from across the room. He was about 15 years old at the time.

Several years later, the article doesn’t say exactly how many, the coach got Leonard alone in a car and gave a speech about how important winning a gold medal at the 1976 Olympics would be for Leonard’s career, and proceeded to unzip Leonard’s fly and sexually assault him.

Leonard was flattered, filled with hope, as any young athlete would be. But he writes: “Before I knew it, he had unzipped my pants and put his hand, then mouth, on an area that has haunted me for life. I didn’t scream. I didn’t look at him. I just opened the door and ran.”

He adds that when he first decided to discuss the incident in the book, which is written with Michael Arkush, he offered a version in which the abuser stopped before there was actual contact. [NYT]

At the time of his NYTimes interview, Sugar Ray admitted that he was initially too ashamed to give his writer the real version of what happened to him, so he told him that the trainer had stopped before anything sexually transpired. However, he says it was former “Diff’rent Strokes” actor, Todd Bridges,’ heart wrenching interview on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” that suddenly made him have a change of heart about telling his true story:

“After watching the actor Todd Bridges bare his soul on Oprah’s show about how he was sexually abused as a kid, I realized I would never be free unless I revealed the whole truth, no matter how much it hurt,” wrote Sugar Ray.

Like we always say, here at ILOSM, celebrities have achieved high levels of greatness in their careers. However, just like us regular folks, they are still perfectly flawed human beings, who have to deal with heartaches, tragedies, and traumas as well. Okay ILOSM fam,’ let’s address what some may be asking head on: ‘Why are we talking about the Kardashians?’ We’ll answer that question now and save you the trouble of asking. Simply put, while we don’t quite understand what exactly the Kardashians are famous for, they are certainly famous, and what we now know is that they are so famous, they’ve even managed to penetrate the lives of Old School celebs. Thus, ending up here on ILOSM.

Now onto which wealthy Old School icons are the godfathers of Kim and Khloe Kardashian, and has been close to them since they were babies…this might surprise you…

Yep, you’re seeing this right, Sugar Ray Leonard is the Goddaddy of Khloe Kardashian. So how did this happen you ask? Our main man, Sugar Ray, has been really close friends with their deceased father, Robert Kardashian, their mother, Kris Jenner, and also Caitlyn Jenner (formerly known as Bruce Jenner) for many years and he’s still close to them today.

Now we all know that Sugar Ray is one of the most phenomenal boxers in boxing history, but he’s also publicly admitted is that his life has has had some ups, some downs, and some outright ‘what the hell?!!’ type of moments as well. We’ve covered several of his moments here at ILOSM and this is yet another ‘WTH?!!’ fun fact about the brotha, I must say.

A few years ago, Sugar Ray actually spoke up in defense of his goddaughters on The Wendy Williams Show when he delivered this stern message to all the “Kardashian haters:”

“Kourtney, Khloe, Kim- they’re wonderful ladies. In fact I wanna say this: The fact that I heard things and normally I don’t talk, I don’t speak up publicly about anything, but for them here are three young ladies who have done extremely well, so for all the haters- just shut up, sit their ass down and take notice because these girls work hard,” said Sugar Ray.

After getting pissed about folks mistaking her godfather for O.J., Khloe then tweeted this in response to them:

Sugar Ray Leonard is a boxing legend but what his son, Ray Leonard Jr., has recently disclosed about him, just affirms what we always say here at ILOSM- that the old school legends we admire are great entertainers, or in Sugar Ray’s case, great athletes, but that doesn’t mean that they are perfect people, nor should we expect them to be…they are simply flawed human beings, just like the rest of us.

Leonard Jr. Gives Details About What He Witnessed As A Child

Leonard Jr. talked to WSOCTV news about being a kid and seeing his Dad, Sugar Ray Leonard, beat his mother, Juanita Wilkinson, until her ‘head was bloody.’ He says he often has feelings of guilt, still to this day, for not doing more to try to stop his Dad’s alleged abuse at that time. Here is what was reported:

“It’s still overwhelming that you know…I can’t believe it still bothers me to this day. I try to put on this outward appearance of this strong guy,” [said Ray Leonard Jr.] He said appearing strong was a way of life, growing up as the son of a boxing legend. He [explained] how quickly fame hit his family and how tough it was on them all. Leonard said the violence he witnessed is still crystal clear in his memory. He recalled an incident at 12 years old, when his dad came home and his mom asked her son (Ray Leonard Jr.) not to go.

“She was saying ‘Ray [Jr.] don’t…don’t leave…don’t leave, and then I got back upstairs and her head’s bloody and…I screamed at him and he left.”

Leonard says he still deals with those memories and wants to help others going through the same thing…Leonard hopes to help men in our community to heal and inspire them to help others.

“It’s about taking the power back, about having courage, about not letting someone take your happiness away from you.”

In 1990 Sugar Ray and Juanita divorced and during their divorce proceedings, Juanita said that he abused her when he was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine (Sugar Ray has be clean since 2006). Sugar Ray then held a press conference to say Juanita’s claims were true: “I can never erase the pain or the scars I have made through my stupidity, my selfishness. All I can do is say I’m sorry, but that is not enough,” Sugar Ray said.

Leonard Jr. also said that he hopes to have his Pops join him on his domestic violence speaking tour one day, and we hope so too, because it will probably be therapeutic for the both of them.

Okay ILOSM fam,’ now that we know that Sugar Ray Leonard- the boxing icon, the man who raises money to find a cure for childhood diabetes- was once abusive toward his wife, does that change our respect for him as a boxing legend? For those of us who still struggle with respecting Sugar Ray- the legend (not the man) after reading this, it’s definitely understandable because what Sugar Ray did to his wife was 100% wrong…let’s also ask ourselves this though: If someone shined a spotlight on anything we have done in our lives (or maybe anything our children have done in their’s) that we’re certainly not proud of, do we feel that our horrible decisions/mistakes define our entire being, and that we should forevermore be solely judged based on our wrongdoings? If our answer is ‘No’ then we may need to take a look in the mirror.

This is absolutely NOT to defend Sugar Ray’s past abuse, again, that was a horrible thing for him to do to his wife and for his son to have to witnessed, no doubt about it. The point is that we oftentimes put celebrities on a pedestal and expect them to be great in every aspect of their lives, simply because they’ve accomplished a high level of greatness in their professional journeys. The truth is that they have flaws, so our expectations are often far too high for them, or any human being to achieve. Although celebs, like Sugar Ray, have chosen a path that puts them in the spotlight, no matter how hard they may try to be perfect role models, they will always fall short on some level, just like us regular folks. Some of us fall harder than others, but we all fall…the question is, how quick, and how well, will we recover from that fall?

Ray Leonard Jr.’s Fam’

Ray Leonard Jr. is 41 years old now, with four children- two girls and two boys. Ray Jr. has been married for nearly two decades. He says he is determined to be a great father and husband to his wife and children. He is also a motivational speaker and a leadership trainer. He constantly travels the country to train many sports teams and organizations on how to be more fine tuned in their professions and their personal lives.

Word on the Old school curb is that Peabo went out on a double date with Sugar Ray Leonard and apparently liked what he saw sitting across the table from him – Leonard’s wife! After Juanita and Sugar Ray divorced, Peabo took his shot and landed his new girl, Juanita. They actually stayed together for about 2 years after that and were engaged to each other a few times. We’re sure this is water under the bridge now for all parties involved, but it would be interesting to know how Sugar Ray Leonard felt about this back then. Here’s Juanita! Sugar Ray Leonard married his high school sweetheart, Juanita Wilkinson, in 1980. Pictured here, you see their six-year-old son, Ray Jr. He’s a splitting image of Sugar Ray, and during their wedding, he served as the ring bearer.

The marriage lasted 10 years, because sometime in 1990 they divorced. Per Wikipedia, during the divorce proceedings, Juanita Leonard accused her Sugar Ray of physically abusing her while under the influence of alcohol. She also said he was an occasional cocaine user. Good thing Sugar Ray didn’t punish Peabo like he punished Tommy Hearns…

Okay ILOSM fam,’ let’s address what some may be asking head on: ‘Why are we talking about the Kardashians?’ We’ll answer that question now and save you the trouble of asking. Simply put, while we don’t quite understand what exactly the Kardashians are famous for, they are certainly famous, and what we now know is that they are so famous, they’ve even managed to penetrate the lives of Old School celebs. Thus, ending up here on ILOSM.

Now onto which wealthy Old School icons are the godfathers of Kim and Khloe Kardashian, and has been close to them since they were babies…this might surprise you…

Yep, you’re seeing this right, Sugar Ray Leonard is the Goddaddy of Khloe Kardashian. So how did this happen you ask? Our main man, Sugar Ray, has been really close friends with their deceased father, Robert Kardashian, their mother, Kris Jenner, and also Caitlyn Jenner (formerly known as Bruce Jenner) for many years and he’s still close to them today.

Now we all know that Sugar Ray is one of the most phenomenal boxers in boxing history, but he’s also publicly admitted is that his life has has had some ups, some downs, and some outright ‘what the hell?!!’ type of moments as well. We’ve covered several of his moments here at ILOSM and this is yet another ‘WTH?!!’ fun fact about the brotha, I must say.

A few years ago, Sugar Ray actually spoke up in defense of his goddaughters on The Wendy Williams Show when he delivered this stern message to all the “Kardashian haters:”

“Kourtney, Khloe, Kim- they’re wonderful ladies. In fact I wanna say this: The fact that I heard things and normally I don’t talk, I don’t speak up publicly about anything, but for them here are three young ladies who have done extremely well, so for all the haters- just shut up, sit their ass down and take notice because these girls work hard,” said Sugar Ray.

On the flip side, Khloe is also very protective about her fam’ and in February of 2014 she went off on some of her fans who mistook a pic she posted on her twitter page of Sugar Ray as a snapshot of O.J. Simpson. Folks were saying all kinds of misguided things like ‘So O.J. really is your daddy!’ So it’s understandable why she was offended.

The photo was actually of her deceased dad, Robert Kardashian (who was one of O’J.’s attorneys for his murder trial), her stepdad Kris Jenner (now Caitlyn Jenner), and Sugar Ray Leonard…in that order. Khloe captioned the photo: “#TBT I love this picture! My daddy. My second dad. My God father.”

After getting pissed about folks mistaking her godfather for O.J., Khloe then tweeted this in response to them:

“For those of you that are that f–king stupid…. That’s NOT OJ in my #TBT that’s Sugar Ray Leonard. Some of you never fail to amaze me!”

And there you have it ILoveOldSchoolMusic family, who would have ever thought that we would be mentioning the Kardashians and Sugar Ray Leonard in the same sentence, I know I wouldn’t have, but stranger things have happened. Anyways, it’s good to see that they stick up for each other like that though – clearly, their love is real and that’s all that really matters.
