Taye Diggs’ public relations advisor probably wishes they would have sent a list of questions to NOT ask Taye, after the hell he caught, following his interview a few months ago.

So why is The Best Man and Empire actor getting dragged, by fans, to ‘Uncle Tom’ hell and back, you ask? Because he pointed fingers at Black women for apparently tarnishing his true attraction toward White women.

During a February 2018 interview on ‘The Red Pill’ podcast, Taye chopped it up with host, Van Lathan, about why he does NOT like the backlash he’s received throughout the years, after Black women learned he was married to his now ex-wife, actress/singer Idina Menzel, for 11 years. Diggs says he hated it so much, that his preference was slightly altered and now he’s dating a half White/half Black woman, instead of just going with his usual attraction for White women. Taye Diggs On The “Salty” Reactions Black Women Give Him For Dating White Women

Van Lathan: The entire time you were coming up [in Hollywood] you were dating or married to Idina Menzel. And I remember the moment my mother realize your wife was white. She saw a picture and said, ‘That’s his wife?!! … Oh!…’ When you go from being the love interest of people, like Angela Bassett and Sanaa Lathan, did that impact your career?

Taye Diggs: I don’t know. I would like to think it didn’t.

VL: Did you feel like Black women were salty?

TD: Yes, but I don’t think it got in the way of anything. […] I always felt fully supported career-wise, but when it came to my social life people always made assumptions. … These days there’s no excuse, so I have no time for it.

VL: Because you’re dating a Black lady (Amanza Smith Brown) now…

TD: Uh, yes. She’s mixed. [FYI: At the time of his interview, Taye was dating biracial reality star, Amanza Smith Brown. They’re no longer together, but they lasted for 5 years.]

When I was 13, I was reading a magazine and there was a picture of a Black woman and I said, ‘Oh she’s pretty, I want to marry her.’ And my mom said, ‘Oh honey, you’re going to marry a White woman. It hurt my feelings, but she was right. To this day, whether I’m out at the club -or whatever- I still get, ‘I thought you only liked White girls?’ […] People didn’t know me. People didn’t understand me. It’s part of what comes with this business. A certain side of you is seen and you kind of have to accept the judgments that come with the business. It took me a minute to not be offended, or feel the need to justify things. Because at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how many times I explain myself, there is always going to be somebody talking.

Taye Diggs On His “Resentment” Towards Black Women

VL: Did you ever have any resentment towards Black women because of some of those attitudes?

TD: Yes, deep down inside. I don’t want to say I suppress it, but I just watch it. When it happens to you personally, even though you understand the logic, there’s trauma there. I don’t know if I can ever mess with a White girl now and I don’t like that. That goes against who I am as a person.

VL: Why do you feel like you can’t mess with a White girl anymore?

TD: Because I’ve had to deal with that for so long…it has changed what I think I like or what I’m attracted to.

VL: So, no more White girls?

TD: I don’t know, but it’s not where my eyes gravitate to naturally and a lot of people would say I should feel relieved but I don’t. … I wasn’t raised to look at someone’s race, or be attracted to one race more than another. I think any psychiatrist or therapist would say it’s probably textbook.

The one and only Nia Long will be joining Taraji P. Henson and Terence Howard for a recurring role where she will play a Las Vegas nightclub owner. Check out the details:

PHYLICIA RASHAD IS JOINING THE CAST TOO

It was also reported a few months ago that actress, Phylicia Rashad, will be playing Taye Diggs’ wealthy mother on the show:

Via TVLine:Cookie’s potential romance with Taye Diggs has hit the mother of all snags. Phylicia Rashad…will recur during Season 3 of Empire as the mom of Diggs’ ambitious city councilman Angelo Dubois, Fox announced Monday. Rashad’s Diana is a powerhouse from one of New York’s oldest and most prominent African-American families, who has her sights set on a higher office for her only son. Her interactions with Cookie, Lucious and the rest of the Lyon clan will expose the class divides that can exist within the Black community.

Now THIS should be interesting for three reasons:
1. Seeing Phylicia Rashad’s character interact with Cookie’s rawness and feisty ways should be interesting in itself.
2. Nia Long playing a villain will be a new notch under her Hollywood belt.
3. Whenever you combine heavy hitters like Ms. Rashad, Nia, Terence, Taraji, Taye Diggs, on one show, you know it’s gonna be poppin!’

JUST 5 YEARS AGO THIS WOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED!

Another interesting thing about seeing so many A-list actors under one “roof” so to speak, is that just a little over 4 or 5 years ago, many A-listers considered starring in TV series as being beneath them, or as a graveyard for an actor’s career. But ever since shows like “Scandal,” Empire and others have dominated the airwaves, there’s been a shift in that overall perception and we, the viewers are more than happy for that shift because really, TV shows would still be boring asa hell without a lil’ spice from ‘Olivia Pope and Associates’ or the ‘Empire family dynasty.’
