Right under our noses, Charlie Brown? Really? All these years, we’ve watched the annual airing of this Thanksgiving special, always missing a subtle brush across the comb over that is racism. There’s pretty much nothing that can be said to alleviate the realism of this situation. It’s there — in all it’s 1973 shame.

WHY ALIENATE ‘FRANKLIN’ LIKE THAT?

By now, if you’re an American family, you’ve probably seen A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving at some point in your life. Well, what you might not have noticed was a particular scene in which Charlie and the gang were taking part in a pre-dinner feast.

According to Comicbook TV, the nostalgic scene was extra warm and fuzzy — as every year, right? That is, until someone pointed out an issue regarding current events unfolding in this country:

“The special centers around a somewhat impromptu holiday meal that happens when Peppermint Patty invites herself and several others over to Charlie Brown and Sally’s house for Thanksgiving despite the fact that they’re preparing to go to their grandmother’s for the feast.”

Somehow, they convince Charlie to have two Thanksgiving meals together, and the feast is on and popping. Yet, the source points out an interesting fact:

“Franklin, the one and only black friend in the group, is seated by himself on one side of the table while the other is crowded with the rest of the friends.”

Likewise, while everyone else had proper, plush furniture to chill back on, our homie, Franklin, had a lawn chair.

WHO PUT ALL THIS MAYONNAISE ON THE TABLE??

Of course you know social media didn’t take well to this image at all an have apparently just discovered that slick slip in of racism by the way. Many people are furious and are boycotting the Thanksgiving special from now on — at least, that’s what’s being said.

For instance, Vic Damone, Jr. tweeted:

“Not watching Charlie Brown Thanksgiving anymore, until they sit some people on the same side of the table as Franklin ✊🏾✊🏾”

“How come Franklin, Charlie Brown’s only black friend, sits alone on the other side of the table?” Cynthia Haynes questions. “And in a lawn chair.”

Even though they had “buttered toast, pretzel sticks, popcorn, jelly beans, and an ice cream sundae,” as mentions Comicbook TV, was it really worth it for Franklin? Invited to the gathering by Peppermint Patty, only to find out it wasn’t a true invite.

A lawn chair…sitting by himself? Wonder what hidden slap-in-the-face we’ll find in the upcoming Christmas special this year…

What’chall think about this development ILOSM fam?’ Think ABC will continue to show the special? Will they edit that particular section? Or opt to ignore the outrage of the people and instead hope this thing fizzles out come next Thanksgiving? Only time will tell.

The Celtics’ Kyrie Irving has a few choice words for the feastful holiday, given its dark origin in history. The player actually has Native American blood in his veins. As you know, Kyrie isn’t one to really hold his tongue about things close to heart. Thanksgiving is no different. Even though the majority of America is getting its “greens, beans, potatoes, tomatoes” on — giving thanks for what they have — Native Americans aren’t feeling the season at all, and for good reason…due to its origin.

Since Kyrie is a direct descendant from his grandmother’s bloodline, it’s not a holiday he celebrates. According to Mass Live, in a recent post-game interview after battling the New York Knicks, Kyrie Irving shared his thoughts about Thanksgiving and his roots.

WILMINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA — Traveling back to his roots, Michael Jordan has been on a mission this year to give more than money to those in need, showing his “human” side.

According to Associated Press, Michael Jordan decided to venture back to his hometown of Wilmington to help continued disaster relief for victims of Hurricane Florence, back in September.

The source says Jordan arrived on-location wearing North Carolina Tar Heels blue. And reportedly, he chose a Lowe’s home improvement store as his gifting venue — which makes sense, considering the various needs of the city’s residents.

Michael graciously handed out Thanksgiving dinners at the store — as well as “Jordans” to kids at the Boys and Girls Club, on Tuesday, November 20, where he used to play as a teen.

NOTE: In September, Jordan donated $2 million towards relief efforts. The source states $1 million went to the Red Cross and the other million went to the Foundation for the Carolinas Hurricane Florence Response Fund.

“I can give money all day long, but at some point you want them to understand you’re human,” Jordan tells AP‘s Steve Redd.

Some recipients of Michael’s help were on-scene meeting with him and expressing their incredible gratitude for his assistance. One beneficiary and hurricane survivor, Stephanie Parker, says she doesn’t know how she and her family of six would’ve managed the last two months with MJ’s assistance.

When she saw Michael on Monday, November 19, she was overwhelmed with emotion and couldn’t resist offering him a huge hug and thanks for rescuing her family. Parker was asked about thoughts concerning Jordan’s personal visit to Wilmington, and she responded:

“It means he hasn’t forgotten. It means we are important.”

The source reports Jordan smiled big when asked about meeting Parker, specifically. Michael responded as follows.

“You really want to trust that money goes to the right people. And when you see it goes to the right people, it makes me feel good that I did the right thing.”

According to Parker, she and her family have had a rough time since the hurricane.

“At first it was really, really hard to realize that you lost everything,” she mentioned to the source. However, she emphasizes that those like Jordan who helped provide needed funds have been an “incredible blessing.”

The Associated Press notes that Jordan will stay in the area for a little while to monitor hurricane recovery efforts in Wilmington. Likewise, the source says he’s considering partnering with others to continue providing assistance as needed.

“I wanted to be an igniter to the process,” Jordan mentioned regarding his initial donation. Yet, even though he’s helping so many, Michael says he’s going to take a while before things are “back to normal” in the area. He maintains that he’ll contribute however he can.

“I am pretty sure that the league will have some support systems that will reach out to this community. And we are going to do a lot in Charlotte, too. But the overall game is about helping other people, so I can see it reaching all the way down to this area.”

“Well, it’s going to be pretty interesting. Gelila’s vegan so we have to figure out what to eat that’s vegan,” Perry told Harvey. “So it’s going to be healthy, that’s all I know. But I grew up in New Orleans so we had everything. Hamhocks, chicken, turkey, all kinds of stuff. But it’s changed a bit.”

Perry didn’t seem to be too enthusiastic about the possibilities of a meatless holiday, so Harvey made a recommendation: Tofurkey. The meat substitute made of tofu sounded less than appealing to Perry, and Harvey confirmed that it is as bad as it sounds.

“It’s the most trifling thing you’ve ever eaten,” Harvey told Perry.

Perry thought that even the name of the mystery meat sounded funny. He decided to maybe try something whose name rolls off the tongue a bit easier.

“That sound like I’m cussing when I say Tofurkey,” Perry said. “Nah, man. But I’ll eat some tochicken.”

Apparently the idea of Tofurkey started to grow on him. When Perry dropped by Rachel Ray’s show on Monday, he revisited the idea. Ray asked him about holiday traditions that he and Gelila are teaching their 3-year-old son Aman and he shared that the family was skipping meat this Thanksgiving. But if the Tofurkey doesn’t hit the spot, they will be returning to Perry’s Louisiana roots and partaking in a whole lot of meat.

“We’re in a weird place ’cause mom is vegan and I just stopped eating meat,” he said. “But there is something called Tofurkey, tofu turkey, that we’re going to try and see if that works out. If not, we’ll go down to New Orleans and do what we always do — eat everything we can get our hands on.”
