We have very sad news to report ILOSM family: Louis “Thunder Thumbs” Johnson, of The Brothers Johnson sadly passed away on yesterday, Thursday, May 21, 2015. He was 60 years young. Johnson’s nephew, Troy, confirmed his death to Rolling Stone, though a cause of death has yet to be revealed.
As we get more confirmed details about his passing we will keep you updated.

The Brothers Johnson are best known for their hits “Strawberry Letter 23,” “Get The Funk Out My Face,” “Stomp,” “I’ll Be Good To You,” and many more. They’ve also worked very closely with Quincy Jones throughout the 70’s and 80’s, as well as many other soul artists.

Our thoughts and prayers are with their family and loved ones right now. Louis Johnson is definitely a presence in soul music who will be sorely missed, but the legacy that Louis and his brother, George “Lightnin’ Licks” Johnson created will continue to live on for many generations to come. May Louis “Thunder Thumbs” Johnson rest peacefully.
