Jamie Foxx took to Instagram on May 24 to express his gratitude after being selected to play the role of George Jefferson for the Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear’s All in the Family and The Jeffersons broadcast.

Via Instagram, Jamie Foxx addressed his fans as he gave admiration to Marla Gibbs.

“As I write this caption, tears are welling up in my eyes,” Jamie writes, “thinking about when she walked into that apartment and delivered those iconic lines, it was reminiscent of how she walked into all of our lives over 40 years ago and changed us forever…with her quick wit and sharp tongue, she challenged George and us as a society every day.”

“She took a character of service and turned it into a character of strength and honor…she made us laugh…she made us cry… with confidence and ease… and she made us rush to that TV with the knobs on it and tune into her soul. And now to be in her presence, I am humbled… don’t know how GOD blessed me so much, but I’ll take it… @marlagibbs4real at 88 years young you still take our breath away…”

Magic In the Making?:

Variety has reported that Sony is in the early stages of the creative process to reboot the ever-popular shows. Norman Lear, the creator of both shows, will also be part of the reboots. He’s revealed there’s plans to recreate some of the classic episodes.

Sony and Lear are working to kick things off with a miniseries that will feature new actors to revise the roles of your favorite cast members. There will also be original scripts to revitalize classic episodes. However, that’s not all. Lear also revealed All in the Family and Maude may be rebooted also.

“There is some talk about doing some of the original shows, redoing them with today’s stars,” Lear confirmed. “There is a possibility that we’ll do All in the Family, Maude, The Jeffersons, Good Times.”

Sony executive vice president of comedy development, Glenn Adilman, also echoed Lear’s words. “We’re exploring it,” Adilman said. “It’s sort of tricky to figure out what the business of that is and what that would be and how it would work. But it’s something we’re trying to figure out.” Adilman added, “It’s tricky for a lot of reasons, and it’s something we’re exploring.”

Will It Work?

Will the reboots live up to the classic creative genius of Good Times and The Jeffersons? That’s the big question. Is there really someone who can fill the shoes of James (John Amos) and J.J.
